Have you ever sold them anything?? I have an "assertion". They kept my 26.00 cable. Is that good business??

I've sold to KEH both via online quotes and their in-person traveling roadshow, numerous times, too many to accurately count. I've received multiple items that were obviously broken, if anything other than a visual inspection had been performed. Transferring your own issues onto still another's completely unrelated experience ... well, we'll just leave that alone.

He's talking like he's a wonderful guy by giving an ancient camera away to some poor guy. that doesn't bother you?
AND he bought it used to begin with!! It simply struck me the wrong way

You have got to be kidding.

OK, OK, OK!

KEH is awful, and so am I. You have been terribly treated by both of us!

I bought a used camera! OMG! The nerve! It is "old!" What kind of person has old equipment?? I said I am going to give it away to someone who will use it! What was I thinking? What sort of person am I anyway??

I said I am going to give it away rather than sell it. They are selling for $200, 300, 400. That is in the same ballpark as the gear you are trying to sell.

what are you talking about? I'm not trying to sell anything. I sold them when they were worth something.

My experience selling to them has been OK, but I've waited until they sent a buyer to an Oregon city within about 100 miles from where I live. In fact, I've gotten slightly better offers compared to their estimated offers when they haven't seen the equipment in question. Of course, if they don't make yearly visits to a city reasonably close to where you live, this tactic won't work. And I don't think they sent anyone to Oregon in 2023.

I sold a Nikon 200-500 to KEH a few months ago. I received more than their original quote. It was in excellent condition. Too heavy for me. I wanted it sold before or if it developed the lockup problem.

I have sold them several items. In all cases I was sent more money than we had agreed on because they told me the items that were in better condition than I said they are. I would call them and ask them why the lower amount.

but why do that when they can come on here and complain. They don't have to take the offer at a reduced price, but 99% they do anyway and then complain about it.

Read my message. I did call them, 15 minutes to get to talk to somebody. I read these folks who have had great experiences with KEH. I had the same about 5 years ago. That’s why I went back to them. Tell me you’ve had a great experience with them RECENTLY. I believe they have changed, which is the purpose of my note.

I sold equipment to them less than 3 months ago and received what they originally quoted for it. Why was it you accepted the reduction in payment if you were in such disagreement of it? You could of gotten it back and went else where to sell it.

About 2 months ago I got a quote from these folks for a Canon GS9, $175. I sent it off, 3 weeks later they offer me $148. That camera was new, in the box, extra battery and a case. Not worth arguing about, so took their offer. 3 weeks ago I sent in my Nikon 300mm PF after receiving their offer of $515. Took them 8 days to advise me they had received the lens, and another 8 days to send me their offer: $355. Really?? 3 weeks for them to change their offer on a like new lens, with everything that came in the box, and the box as well. No explanation. I called, waited 15 minutes to talk to someone who had no reason, so I told them to return it.

I personally will never do business with them again. When the lens is returned, I will post it here for $500, then if there is no interest it will go to B&H, who presently have offered $515.

515 till you send it in and you will get another insulting low ball offer just like KEH.

LOL

Did you run your own quick analysis of what this lens is selling for online today? Alas, maybe there was some miscommunication of the specific lens model. If the various resellers are selling a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4 E PF ED VR in the $600 to $900 range, some error occurred in making a $515 offer. It's too low for anyone to make a profit to resell at $600. The revised $350 makes more sense for a different lens model or a lens nothing like the condition being claimed by the OP. Where the error occurred cannot be known from the lack of detail /direct involvement; certainly not from messages on a message board.

I agree, imo ALL the big 800 STORES are the same... since they BACK their USED lenses, they can sell for higher than
and get that price, and as long as you follow their POLICY, usually you have 30 days to ultimately keep or return... they are good to deal with. In regards to SELLING them your gear, expect they will PAY less, in this case, B&H has given you an acceptable offer, so there is no harm, but in REALITY, you likely could sell online for MORE.

I have been buying/selling online for over 25 years. I regularly buy from the BIG STORES, but NEVER trade in my used or NEW gear to any of them. I so use their SELLING PRICES as a GUIDE for when I sell mine gear, whether personal or acquired.

I have never dealt with KEH as a seller, only as a buyer. I have generally had good experiences with them. My only complaint is that I thought some of the glass I received from them could have been cleaner. What you described, if true, may be an unfair and deceptive trade practice. If you are really upset about this, I suggest you contact the consumer affairs division of your state's Attorney General's office. The information you provided would make me think twice about selling any equipment to this company.

There's a lesson here: don't buy new camera equipment and then plan to sell it like some form of an appreciating asset. There's a global glut of camera equipment, especially anything related to ancient single-lens reflex technology, aka flapping mirrors. The savvy shoppers purchase used equipment and use it forever. Everyone else gets disappointed when they find out no one cares about their underused, overpriced camera equipment they're trying to unload.

In this buyer's market, I'm sure no one is sitting around the KEH warehouse with their boots on the desk, reading comic books, waiting for some lone box to arrive, and then figuring out how to screw that customer.

Don't believe there's a glut? Consider the market is down about 85% since the 2010 peak in bodies sold. Before you believe another UHH lie about needing a new camera, consider what you have and why it needs to be replaced.

You can save the most money by not buying equipment you don't need.

Great response, I have a nikon D610, I know it is not the best camera by a long shot, but until it breaks, then I will look into another camera.

I list all of my mint photo equipment here first, cause there is no charge to do so(paypal takes out very little), if it does not sell, I list it next on Fred Miranda for a modest cost, if it does not sell there, I list it on eBay.
I would never let a middle man within 500 miles from my pristine equipment. I make on average 60-80% more than by trading it in to KEH or B&H or any other middle man. Makes no sense. I worked hard to afford the equipment I sell, I want maximum return so I can purchase more photographic equipment.
You are doing the right thing selling it here.

KEH...like all business'...uses it's own metrics...for what can keep their business moving into the future.

B&H has its own metrics, and they will differ from KEH and everyone else...tailored to their needs.

The used market has a much greater flux than new. What is going on behind the scenes with their inventory can change on a dime.

You send to KEH for the convenience...not top price.

You'll be quoted a better price for store credit than cash as well.
