I’m done with my Canon Pro-100 printer after many good years with it. So now it’s the end of 2023 and I’m going to do some serious printing for commercial use. Wide format. Ink efficient. Budget under $1500. Recommendations?
Yes, Look at the Brother line of Printers.

Brother doesn’t even make dedicated photo printers.
That’s right. Better for laser printers.
I'd look into creating a $160 membership 'pro account' at printique.com. You can sign-up for 90-days 'free' to confirm. See if this $1500 budget could be better used on printed results rather than equipment.
Great tip. I’ll look into it. What do get for your membership?

Here's a check-list. I let membership lapse a few years ago, back when they were still AdoramaPix.
https://www.printique.com/company/printique-pro-photo-lab-for-businesses/I thought the shipping too was a difference, coming from NYC to Chicago (for me), but I don't see that listed specifically.

The company I used to work for used (wide format) Epson printers. Excellent quality and not expensive to run with the large cartridges. A personal friend used a smaller Epson desktop printer with good sized cartridges and made a return on his investment. The two keys seemed to be buying the larger cartridges, and using the printer regularly. Many of the complaints I read about with Epson printers are from the ink drying out; my friend got rid of his when he dropped photography as a money making business.
When I retired I got rid of my Epson printer and changed to the Canon Pro-100.

That's the one I own, and I LOVE it!
My beloved Xerox 6200 laser color printer failed ... perpetually jamming, yes I did my troubleshooting cleaning etc best.
Looking for a replacement as with inkjets the toner is the key expense, when considering the printer, one must consider the Third Party, toner replacements. Wow!!! what a confusing headache... the search can continue after the first of the year.

Epson ET-8550 if a 17" wide throat is enough. It uses bottles of dye ink.
DO NOT make borderless prints with it if you want it to last. The ink overspray will ruin it.
The Canon Pro 200 replaces the 100. Ink is expensive.
If you need wider than 17", look at Canon and Epson websites for their wide format professional printers. The larger the cartridges, the less expensive the ink...
