Matt also harps on the known useless web, slideshow… modules but I don’t think many use those anyway.

He also states that if you keep older functions as you update you will wind up with bloated confusing software. He shouldn’t talk about Ps that way.

If one is unable to use the catalog perhaps he shouldn’t advertise that.

He specifically says he does not teach organization, which I think is a mistake. As we've seen on this forum, that is a major issue for some people, particularity hobbyist, which is what most of us are. Not teaching the organizational tools of LRC (the one resident on one's computer) would be like only teaching shutter priority and ignoring aperture priority. It masks no sense. But at least he's open about it and leaves the customer to decide. I decided and no longer follow him.

In my case, I use LRC and most all of its features. If I later decide to go the LR (cloudy) I can easily do it because my file structure is in place and I can just use that.

I'm not going to change anyone's mind and I don't need to. I've never understood people who hate/complain about the LRC import/catalog structure. Maybe that's because I have a logical mind and I understand the reasons you need to follow a procedure when wanting to move files around. From the beginning (decades ago) I set up a logical file structure for storing my images. A folder for the year, a sub folder for year-month-day when image(s) are taken or saved to my hard drive. After I save the images to the sub folder I open LRC and import said folder. To find a specific image I just need to remember about when I took the photo. I also use LRC's collections feature to keyword imported files if they fall into a special category or event. What I would miss most going to LR local would be 2nd monitor support, virtual copies, direct editing in plug ins, opening multiple files in PS in layers and the collections feature.

i am playing w/LR. one disadvantage is that plugins like helicon are not available. i put in a "request' at the adobe site for plugins to be supported in the next update.

You can invoke plug-ins by edit-in photoshop and then filters. It’s an extra step but does work.

I tried that but it still only works on a folder that directly contains images, not on upper-level hierarchy files (ie. something like "Lightroom Photos" which would search all my images for keywords, etc.)

I double checked and you seem to be correct. It did come up with images that matched my keyword but the images were NOT keyworded. That means that AI is doing it's job but keywords are NOT being searched.

Check out what The Lightroom Queen said in her monthly newsletter that came today.

If you didn’t know she doesn’t work for or speak for Adobe. But has very deep connections inside and knows what is going on and provides reliable reports and analysis.

A good synopsis indeed. She confirmed my doubts and added several new ones. I really like the interface and concept of no catalog but it is too short on features I use regularly. Thanks for the referral.
