Plus, it is very hard to reuse film!

It's very hard to reuse:

Food
Toilet paper
Gasoline

…and many other things that have renewable or reusable substitutes.

Most capitalists want to sell something that has to be consumed, like film and photo paper, so they can keep making it. It's possible to make lots of products that don't wear out, too, but that's against economic survival. Why do we have fashion trends? To sell more clothes! The stuff we bought last year is probably perfectly serviceable, but the tie's too narrow, certain colors and patterns are out of style, etc. Wait 20-30 years and it all gets recycled.

It's all about that churn... The computer industry is all about churn, certainly!

Companies are VERY RESISTANT to anything that would take over their market. Kodak may be an exception, because digital imaging research that resulted in the first viable digital imaging chips STARTED in their labs. It proved to be economic suicide, because they didn't shut down the bulk of their silver halide manufacturing lines fast enough. Then they ceded digital imaging to the Japanese. Kodak as we knew it in the 20th century is gone.

I peruse the images.
I only edit images I'm going to use for something (printing, web, gifts, whatever).
I don't edit every stinkin' image I take, only when I'm going to use it. Why spend all that time editing when the results will just sit on the computer for most of them. I don't live to edit.

I don't take thousands of shots, I'm very selective in what I shoot.
My largest "haul" was about 800 shots for a week in coastal Maine one time.
I shoot; br come home & copy to computer; br a... (show quote)

I read somewhere that it is best to format your card in the camera not on the computer.

Yep, but some are determined to live on the edge, always looking for a way to fail (fall of the edge). Industry 'best practices' mean nothing to them.

I have two 64 GB cards and two 32 GB cards. I like to rotate them. I'm thinking of getting a 128 GB card and dump the 32's.

My camera has 2 slots. I have a 128GB in the first slot and an old 8GB card in the second. I don't re-format the 1st card until after I fill it, so it goes for many sessions. I copy all the new shots to my PC after each session. When I fill it I switch to the 2nd card. Then, after copying the new shots, I re-format and start over. I did the same thing when I only had 1 slot, I just kept the 2nd card in my camera bag.

Thank you for the welcome! You guys are so friendly here. ;)

Honestly....the only reason I still have the 32's is that I don't want to throw out perfectly good cards. When I take the camera I can usually get close to fill up a 32.

Yeah....it's more than I need on a daily basis, but I feel better having more room than not enough.

What does everybody think on this?

I only use a 16Gb SDCard in my Sony a6500, but it's a high-speed (94MB/s) card. Granted, the a6500 is an APS-C format, but the images are still 24 megapixel and I use the largest JPEG file format. Even when traveling, I always download my images onto my MacBook Pro every night. But just in case, I carry a couple of extra 16Gb cards in my field bag.

I have pretty much always used 32g cards.....

SD cards that are fast enough to be used for good quality video tend to come in sizes that would be suitable for video use (i.e. big). Finding fast cards that are smaller than 64GB can be tricky, and considering the price of fast large capacity cards, smaller fast cards may be the preference for some people (myself included). A name that I don't see mentioned much is Kingston, and while they are considered to be on much the same level as SanDisk for reliability, they are cheaper and, perhaps more importantly, you can get fast cards that are smaller than 64GB. I currently own two 32GB V90 Kingston cards and according to h2testw speed testing software they are the fastest V90 SD cards that I have. And they cost less than £30 each.

If you're not using SanDisk cards, it doesn't matter was capacity junk you're using ....

Yup, hundreds have read that. I've read it, but I don't believe it's absolutely necessary.
May be tru if the computer and camera use different file systems, FAT16, FAT32, XFAT...
I've never had a problem.
I think it's a CYA for the camera manufacturer.
I don't format them on the computer either, they're already formatted when I buy them.
I just plug them into the camera and the camera puts the directory structure/files it wants on it, on it.
I even add a PDF of my contact information for if the card is ever found: "Owner Info.pdf" to the root directory.

I just delete the image files via the computer after copying and having them backed up.
Then back in the camera ready for the next outing.
They're just files, it's just a memory card.
Do people re-format USB fobs every time they use them? Same technology, different package.

Do what you feel most comfortable doing.
I do.

I’ve been running 325GB in my Z8 and Z9 but am going to get a pair of 1.3TB Delkin Black G4 before my trip to Africa in March. I will offload to computer daily but not erase the cards unless they get full but will keep them for backup until I get home along with a pair of Samsung T7s.

I know this is only anecdotal, but it's still interesting.....

From the internet:-

My experience as a busy amateur who takes 99% stills and travels a lot in challenging climates

SanDisk - I have had 2 fails
Kingston Canvas - I have had no fails
Integral - I had one fail in the first weeks of use

Result -

I use Kingston Canvas now by choice
I buy in 32GB size aas they are very cost effective on Amazon and the smaller capacity cards seem to have less of a risk of a "crash" than higher capacity cards - and I trust that these are very unlikely to be fake (don't dismiss this as a problem)
And have a pile of them so that I can switch to a "new card" each day of a holiday/ travels. I also back up to my laptop each evening - and from there to an external hard drive.

The fastest cards are Canvas REACT Plus.

In the past 13 years I had one Sandisk micro fail in a phone.
Had one Lexar SD fail.
I have 10 Sandisk cards.
I only buy Sandisk.
Everyone's experience is different.
