I wonder if there's an automated way to check-up on members who haven't posted in a long time. Perhaps, we could subscribe to an automated system that would send an email asking if everything is okay. We could list the email of a partner or a friend in case we weren't able to reply.

If they have "notify of UHH message" turned on (I do) they will get an email saying that there is a new private message at UHH for them.
Otherwise, they have to check by logging into UHH.

I have often wondered the same. We become friends here, and when someone drops out of the picture and we have no idea of what happened to them, it's a real worry.

So if we're going to be gone for a while, we should post a message about it, and turn on "notify of UHH message". 😊
Of course, this wouldn't help with unexpected difficulties, but...

I’ve wondered how many members are on the forum and the percentage that post more than a dozen times a year.

At one time, I remember seeing that there were over 83,000 members. I can't find a number now, though. Those who would want a notification sent would have to indicate that.

The number is 109,900.

That's taken from "subscribed to main discussion forum," from which I recently discovered one can no longer unsubscribe

I assume that number includes the huge amount of names with zero posting history, and those with just a few comments, and those who have died (but whose accounts still show as active).

Indeed many of us on this forum are elderly and have the time to post photos and make comments about other member's posts. Over the years we become very familiar with each other and even get to meet in person on occasion. It is always sad when a familiar name drops out and no information as to why is available. Many of us would like to give our condolences to their loved ones if there was a way to do so.

Graham Thirkill's last post (May 2023) started with:
"I have had Three Threatening Private Messages from the Admin bloke today. It appears to me, he has more time for the Prudes, Whingers, Moaners etc etc etc, than us normal broad-minded people."

Or maybe there was a private retort from Graham that caused Admin to say "to heck with him".

True, just not "connected".
I thought I saw one user one time where the User Title may have said "banned".
(He was a nasty dude.)
