I was on a boat tour in the Kenai Fjords National Park just taking in all the sights and the captain comes on the speaker saying she, yes she, just spotted a black bear swimming way out in front of our boat. She said it was rather unusual and not something she sees every day. Now, how true is that? I often wondered just how rare some of our sightings really were as I think if they make it sound like our boat trip was the best of the year the tips might be bigger.... but I must say I was surprised to see this bear even thinking of such a long swim. He was headed from one land mass to another that was well over a mile away. I'm bad a distance, but I'm guessing it was several miles away. Anyway, here is the long distance swimmer, or not.
No this looks nothing like a bear, this is what I was looking at when the announcement of swimming bear came on. Check out how steep the terrain is.

I have dated every available bear on this island. I hear there are some really hot prospects on the island way over there and hey I like swimming.....

Solid ground! Now I have to figure out how to get back....

I don't remember it being this steep and the rocks so big when I came down here. But then i was hot to trot to leave this island..

I know that bears are good swimmers, but that's crazy! He or she must have heard about a trail camera across the water that needed to be meddled with.
I think you captured 90% of a children’s book best seller, Beth. Great set and loved your captions.
Great fun set Beth. We'll written too
Quite an experience

Well the boat captain said it was unusual. Bears do swim a lot, but she said they don’t see it often where it is heading way out to sea to get to another island!
This has got to be a new Fuzzy Wuzzy story! I had no idea they could, or would swim that far!

I don't know much about the black bears but I do know that polar bears can swim great distances.
