Jack, I am an artist and have taught so many people to paint and there's one thing you can be sure of with ANY kind of art. Every time you do a new project, you improve...and that's for the rest of your life. Don't slow down. Keep on as long as you enjoy it. We enjoy it, but even if we didn't, it only has to please you!
Thanks for responding Jo. I have no intention of quitting. Most of what I create I never post, it's just for me

That's what counts in the long run!

Exactly.
Some insist on living in the past.

You can make up new definitions all you want. You could redefine painting and drawing to be photographs. Nobody will agree with you.

Give me one good reason to care.

I don' get all the angst. Why redefine photography? That's just silly and wrong. Many, many new things have come along that didn't fit well with our accepted vocabulary. So we came up with new ways to define them. Why can't we do that with AI images combined with photoediting?
Another case of pole-vaulting over mouse turds?

Not really 100% sure I understand what it is that youre saying but I kinda think we agree.

I'm saying leave the subject of photography and its descriptors alone and invent new terminology for the hybrid photo-AI creations.
But don't redefine "photography" to include all the new ways of creating images.
I've been enjoying your work since you started messing with AI...you're getting better every project, so enjoy, and continue to produce art!

And I second that comment
When AI first reared its ugly head I thought 'never for me, the world and definitions of what we see and don't see are changing too quickly, its not right, it going to cause trouble'.
In one small respect, the pictures you are making curmudgeon and the enjoyment you are obviously getting from your efforts, have changed my opinion somewhat.
In every art form, regardless of how its created, it's beauty, or appeal is in the eye of the beholder.
People here debating the reference to what its going to be called, or not called, don't seem interested in 'art' per se. To me they are pretend technophobes, trying to sound informed and intelligent while chewing the end of their spectacles frame.
I for one have been fascinated by some of the work you have produced, carry on old chap. Ignore the naysayers.

Please re-read my post. At no time did I refer to AI images as "photographs". I called them either "pictures" or "images"....
I've re-read your post and I can confirm that you did not refer to AI images as "photographs". In fact I can't remember anybody producing an AI image and referring to it as a photograph. AI isn't the problem and neither is photo editing. It's people who either misunderstand the vocabulary or have very narrow views on what the objectives of photography are.
As long as you enjoy what you are doing and it makes you happy then its good.. So carry on Jack...
Curmudgeon, Your collaboration with AI provides stunning results ... keep it up.
I admire them and you are masterful at telling AI what to do.Curmudgeon we do what we can do as our "excess maturity" puts limits on us. My Dr said when I asked for a refill of the magic man pill, hit me with a hurt, "But, you're almost 90" ... if she had passed psych 101 she would have said you have the mind and body of a 50-year-old. Unfortunately, she is correct, and my knees and rt hip confirm her statement and sad to say, there is no magic pill for the physical stamina going on photo expeditions.
The backpack of my DSLR and Lenses are heavvvvvvvvv and I do not go on photo expeditions as in the past. I recently did a UHH post on the virtues of compact 1" sensor superzooms. I did so because a gentleman of excess-maturity had posted asking for advice on lighter DSLR and my reply suggesting compact cameras was ignored and the heavy DSLR guys ignored the reality of weight and age limitations.
My post regarding the modern compacts....
