I lived in a different country (S.Africa) and we didn't have to worry about that. At 87 i remember a lot of what went round the world.

While in grade school in the 60s we never did the hide in a shelter or under a desk thing. Maybe someone knew a flimsy wooded desk wasn’t going to save anyone in an atomic bomb blast.

As in the Pontiac ad, I recall joining my high school girlfriend in the back seat of my father’s ’64 Olds and asking for her to do the same. Back then, I thought it was a pretty smooth line. She declined with a popular two word phrase which was probably my Plan B after a frustrating return from that date.

I thought the same thing but if you look closely, the vacuum hose is attached by a "T" at the tail pipe. The rushing exhaust gas would create a vacuum (Bernoulli's effect) without getting into the vacuum hose. Not sure how much suction it would create but it's actually a pretty sound idea.

Those vent/wing windows in one of the ads were great in the summertime. And wow, the car companies probably made a couple of bucks apiece when they discontinued them, but an upper lip bee sting resulted from one that bounced off an open vent one fine summer day; thought I heard the bee scream just before it hit the window; it's loss was greater than mine....duh JFM
