We used to have Hobby Shop here is SE Virginia. He had so much RC models and other related equipment you could hardly move in the shop. He became ill and had to close. The local Hobby Town is not of much use, as it's mostly a toy store. Time's a changing.

After years away from the hobby I have plastic air plane model that I want to do a good job on. Having not been in a hobby shop in years if I could even find one' I was wondering is there a type of masking tape fine enough to use that would not bleed through ?

Does this help?

Tamiya , Vallejo, Mr hobby, AK Interactive, Mig all make masking tape specifically for plastic models. sunwardhobbies.ca carry a large supply and ship to the US. I suspect there are many in the US. Sprue Brothers, Andy'sHobby headquarters (Arizona)

if you apply tape over a painted surface I suggest you apply it to your pants or desk first to make it less sticky and prevent it from pulling up fresh paint. Don't ask why I know this!

1. Or, after applying the tape, seal the edge with the old color.

2. Try 3M low-tack Scotchtape. Nice sharp edge.

I live in Dayton, Oh and a quick search brought up several hobby shops in town. One that might be of interest to you is MTS Aviation Models. They specialize in what you are doing. I know they are not near you but they might be able to answer your question. 937-320-1428. And of course, there is always Hobby Lobby.

Hobby Lobby is not much more than a Toy Store with a small Hobby Shop, at least where Radio Control models are concerned.
