Learned to ride when I was 7 or 8 in the ring and around the trails in the Oakland CA hills. Girls worked with the stable horses back then, probably still do, men lead the trail rides. Girls even mucked the stalls back then. Boys were out of luck unless they owned a horse or knew someone who did.

I loved showing horses but it's work. Trail riding is FUN. YOU had fun. Only God knows why but kids who grow up loving horses and dogs make truly nice adults! That's the truth!!!

we used to show German Shepherds, and I always disliked the idea that dogs were expected to stand as these beautiful horse are doing.

How long do these horses stand like that? Maybe 5 minutes...long enough to snap a picture. I can stand like that way loner and it doesn't hurt a bit. It doesn't hurt them one bit. They are taught to "park out" and pose for pictures. Doesn't hurt dogs either. I have seen dogs, horses and people stand in positions that look like it would hurt me and it doesn't bother them at all.
I've shown horses for years but never have shown dogs. Maybe they have to "Pose" longer than horses.

Wow, she really has her act together. These are beautiful. I love the poses; they show the musculature of the stallions which I’m sure is a selling point. Thanks for sharing the FB link, Jo.

Glad you picked up on that Joe. Good eye! Thanks for looking and commenting.

Nice photos. You ever see what she uses to take the photos &, the horses will pose like that for you? Just wondering & maybe you could go on a shoot with her one day& get some tips. Maybe that will get you there. A member posted some excellent wild horses photos back probably over a year or two ago of them kicking up some dust near a river bed in some early morning Arizona (pretty sure backlit light. If I ever make it out to tour the west, that would be one I'd like to check off the ole wish list. Happy shooting & riding, Tom

Thanks for looking and posting. As I mentioned, I don't want to photograph horses, I'd rather photograph landscapes, birds, flowers and wildlife. I'd much rather paint horses. The only horses I MIGHT want to photograph would indeed be the wild ones.

She's good! The last is my favorite; I never cared for the stretched-out look because to me it is unnatural. (I know that I am in the minority here. )

John, you are not in minority. Most here seem to oppose that "parked out" stance. Some think it hurts them but it doesn't. Some horses park themselves without any encouragement from a handler. Most only stand that way for long enough to snap a picture anyway. As I mentioned, I can stand that way for as long as a horse can and it doesn't hurt me a bit.

Beautiful horses. Don’t care for the poses. I much prefer natural settings like wild horses in wild environments.

I wish I could get pictures like those your friend got.

She's good. You have to get the owner to groom the horse to perfection, teach it to stand and then you show up to shoot the picture. Find a friend with a beautiful horse and try it. I'll bet they'd love a great shot of their horse.

I, too, noticed those magnificent stances........"Stallion poses". I think both the horses and photographs are gorgeous!

They are beautiful world champions and she does a magnificent job with them. She would greatly appreciate your sweet comment.

Gotta share this with you Karin.
I have painted for horse lovers for over 60 years and in all those years, I have only had ONE bad check from a customer. How many businesses can say that?
You and I both know that horse lovers are good people
Thanks for looking and commenting..

I understand breeding. I bred horses for a while. I still do not understand why they posed them this way. Doesn't really enhance the animal's confirmation or attributes in my mind.

I think it's far prettier than just standing like they are just slouching. I doubt the slouch would work for advertising. Maybe they shouldn't make soldiers stand at attention.
Everyone deserves an opinion. Thanks for commenting.
