I was given a SONY DSC-W230 that uses memory stick. Please advise what can be used for reading and downloading the stick?

Lots of cheap multi-card readers out there that read the Sony memory sticks, you just need to read their description to be sure its compatible. I have a Neewer that reads 14 formats.

Will the camera connect to a computer via a USB cable? If it does, there’s a chance that windows explorer (or Mac finder) will be able to see it and download what’s on it.

I had this model, or something similar, back in the day. Not only did Sony use an off-standard card, they also used a proprietary USB cable. You might find it easier to just give the body back, if they failed to include both the USB cable and the memory card.

I have the USB cable, so I think I am okay now.

But memory stick is not available on the market any more. I only have the original one on the camera.

Would this be your primary camera? Is investing into more accessories worthwhile? You'll find the same issue in trying to find a replacement battery for this ancient model. A dead battery is what eventually ended this model for me.

Thank you, my battery is good. This is not my primary camera. Like to sell it off.

If you want more sticks, search Ebay, may not be worth the cost and a well used old one might have a short life.

Amazon has one for sale at:

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-DSC-W330-Digital-Stabilization-Black/dp/B00328HR5S?th=1

Their description says:
“Card slot for optional Memory Stick Duo media and SD media”

Not likely you will have luck with their “memory sticks”… as you would have no way of plugging it in a PC. The “SD media” would be my choice to use. Did you receive a book… which should show what capacity cards will work?
