Good to hear! Yes, I know they’ve worked on it for 20+ years, now, and it’s certainly better, but owners still complain. Every consumer grade Epson we’ve owned (9 since the late 1980s) “died” of a head clog. But we got plenty of use from them while they worked. I still prefer them.

I have a Canon Pro 1000. I picked it because I was at an Expo and Canon was using it for the demo printer. If that was their choice, It's mine. Had a Epson and it was OK but not like the 1000.

I know that I will be getting good advice from my UHH colleagues. I was tasked by my daughter with to recommend a large format printer to buy. She wants a printer with 17" minimum width. She's leaning towards a Canon but I've heard good things from Epson printers.
Although her photo taking abilities, eye and creativity, have long surpassed my own, she still depends on dad for equipment advice and in this case I am delegating this on you. Her camera is a Fuji GFX50R.
Looking forward to your input

I have an Epson P6000 that I use for anything over 8.5 X 11. I have used it to print advertising posters 24" X 16" for the local bowlers association for their tournaments. It will print either roll paper (obviously up to 24" short side), or cut sheets, with guides for the second. I also print book covers when I purchase a used book that comes without a cover. I use it to print shooting targets. Is it the best? I have no idea. Is it cheap? By no means, although cheap sometimes means not very good. I can stand a foot away from a 24" X 36" and the sharpness stands up. I'm not recommending it, since I never "recommend" anything. But I definitely like it.

Definitely go with Epson. My experience with them has been excellent. The 13" and 17" models use three different B&W inks which produce gorgeous B&W prints.

I had this printer and had to throw it away due to Extreme clogging on the print head! It Cannot sit for months! I could Not unclog the printer head no matter what I did and to send it back to Epson would have cost a Fortune!

The ET-8550 max is 19x13 in landscape mode. I have had this printer for about a year now. I have used that size on 3 occasions so far. I got tired of the cartridges.

My Epson Stylus R2880 has been chugging along for almost 10 years with only a few hiccoughs. Ink is expensive but worth it.

I have the Canon Prograf 1000 max print size 17x20. Print quality is excelent but very expensive to run. In my experience a lot of that VERY EXPENSIVE ink ends up wasted in the maintenance tank.

Are you printing borderless? That's a good way to waste ink.

I also have tried several photo printers by HP and Canon. I use Epson, now, too.

That said, I haven't tried any extremely expensive printers of the exerimental variety, or heat-transfer dye subs for prints on metal and glass.

Epson makes two printers that I have used for large (at least 17") prints. The difference in quality is noticable to the trained eye, and both are rather slow. The first is the Epson SureColor P900 (about $1,200.00, and a roll adapter for 10' banners (!) is $250 extra). This is the best photo printer I have used - though I must admit I haven't used that many. It uses 10 different inks, and it's slow, but the results are really, really good.

The second 17" printer from Epson I've used still gives great quality. It is the Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8550. I now use this as my photo printer as well as my office "All-in-One."

Here are links to reviews that have good summaries at the top.

I also have tried several photo printers by HP and... (show quote)

I have the epison 8550 ecotank and it took over a year and 5 different machines to get one that actually did a good job without smearing ink all over. These were early ones but the issue was really this machine couldn't print borderless w/o ink overspray. This overspray left puddles of ink which got over rollers and then other prints. One time they told me to use a Q tip to mop up the overspray after every print. This occurred mainly on 11 x 14 which is why I bought this printer in the first place.
Prints are great and if you can deal with a small white border go fo it. If not find a different machine. 5 machines in less than a year is ridiculous.

…And ruin a printer. Keep the ink on the paper. Use a larger size, and trim it down. Your printer will last FAR longer.

The only printers that do a good job with borderless printing are the ones labs use. They print with laser light on silver halide-based chromogenic papers, instead of ink.

I bought the printer, eco tank, to save money, and you want me to but larger paper, which is exponentially more expensive and throw scrapes away.
No thanks.
I have the border small and usually hidden by frame

11 x 14 print so next size up is a lot more

When I ask a question on forums, the thing that really irks me the most is when people include links to voluminous documentation. Usually, I had already scanned that documentation. All I want is real advice based on the experience of other people. So here are my two cents:
I own an Epson WF-7310 wide format. It has two paper trays. I use this to print my posters.

Walmart, for one, has them:
Epson Workforce Pro WF-7310 Wireless Wide-Format Printer with Print up to 13" x 19"
Auto 2-Sided Printing up to 11" x 17"
500-sheet Capacity
$319.00

Hope this helps!
