Good answer!

Apparently the OP wasn't there. I wonder if some post processing could bring out the truth or just make things more mysterious. A fun discussion could come from this.

Too bad UHH doesn't have a section on how to treat animals. Oh, wait, any section will work.

Just some shifting of saturation and color adjustment sliders, and the "body" of the "doe" turns into vegetation which is in the shadow of the buck being recorded by the trail cam.
In the arc of light from the camera flash which passes by the buck, not in his shadow, there appears to be a tree trunk above/beyond his shoulder, and a portion of possibly a downed log, with the pattern of the "doe's ears" is beyond his rear.

The red shift in the original photo may be from the tendency of small sensor, low dynamic range cameras to produce red shift in images made in low light. Someone else more experienced and schooled in the science of that will be able to give an understandable explanation.

I can't get the original of my example to post. Maybe the resolution is too low?

A deer ghost! LOL Illuminated by the red focus assist light does seem the best explanation. The assist light is on before the flash and the shutter may have been open briefly before the flash went off. But just a guess.

Similar to how chickens, cows, pigs, lambs, turkeys... are also "murdered".......
Funny how it's okay to "murder" some animals but not others. Or is that different somehow...
Do fish get murdered also?

Killing humanely to eat and survive is a biological necessity and part of life. However killing from a safe distance to get a trophy is wanton murder by small (not in statue) person with a big ego. If I am not mistaken, humans are the only, or among the very few, who kill their own kind or other beings just for fun and/or to glorify themselves. I know that this statement will generate a storm. To not make it worse, I will not reply to all the very brave trophy hunters who will attack.

No. 2 looks like the head of a donkey/rabbit cross.

To me it looks like a deers head looking towards the front deers rear end.

I love your photograph of a beautiful dog having fun. If I am not mistaken all four of its legs are off the ground.

I see what you describe, now. It caught my eye the other way around, facing left like #1
The "body" of #2 formed by the shadow of #1. The head/face of #2 the rounded donkey/burro face with an oversized rabbit nose.

Thank you. Rusty was found in our garden almost nine years ago in a pretty sad state, he adopted us and is the most loyal four legged friend you could ask for. More pics here https://fijitime.smugmug.com/Birds-and-Animals/Rustys-Gallery/

Are there any previous images, before this one in which the red deer was present?
Does not seem likely, but sensors can have after-images. I've read where you can take a photo, the take a second with the camera / sensor in complete darkness and get a dim image of the previous photo. Might be more likely in low light conditions of a trail camera?

I have been thinking along these lines. Almost like a double exposure in film
The Red Deer is also oversize compared to the buck, And I see a faint image of another head over the red dean's haunch.

Explicitly, yes.
For a good majority though, murder is synonymous with kill.

Yes, Yes, Yes!! If you use the bible as an authorative text, not all do. The Bible does not say "though shalt not kill", it says "though shalt not commit murder". There IS a difference!

I and most people differentiate between Wild Animals and Farm Animals. Even vegetarians and vegans kill plants when they eat them. I support only shooting with a camera. How did we get off photography too this?

I don't know how we got here either. But just so you know, I don't require your "support" when I decide it's time to go hunting!

One way to not "generate a storm" is to not make ridiculous and unsupportable statements! Every sentence in your paragraph proves that you know NOTHING about hunting! Rest assured, in every sentence you ARE mistaken!
