I was 16-years old and a Junior in high school. I was in physics class when they announced that President Kennedy had been shot. Keep in mind that we were in Northern Michigan and it was in the middle of deer season, so the first comments that we made between ourselves was that we didn't know Kennedy was a hunter, since for us, the only time we ever heard of someone getting shot was because of a hunting accident (there's no question that we were living sheltered lives). It was maybe 30-minutes later, when I was in study hall, that it was announced that Kennedy was dead and that it had taken place in Dallas.

About 15-minutes after that, they announced that classes had been cancelled and that the buses would soon be taking us home. We were also informed that since it was Friday, and that Thanksgiving was the following Thursday, that school would be closed for the entire week, instead of the just the originally planned two-days, Thursday and Friday.

I was working in a local grocery store/meat market at the time and being in an area where a lot of hunters came for deer season, we were pretty busy, so my boss asked me to come in and work most of the days that I had off (I was already scheduled to work the weekends and after school so in the end, it was only a few extra hours). We had a TV at the store and we watched most of the news programs covering the activities of the week. Of course, everyone who came into the store had to stop, look at what was going on and express their opinions and views, to say nothing about speculating what actually happened and who was ultimately responsible. While the term 'conspiracy theory' was not yet part of our lexicon, you could see how stuff like that got started and what perpetuated it.

I too was working in a grocery store in the meat market when we heard the news, a sad day for the US.

I was a Junior in high school, sitting in the cafeteria for a study hall period. The shooting was announced over the PA system, and shortly after that President Kennedy's death was announced. We were dismissed early and after school activities were cancelled.

Senior in high school. In fact, our 60th high school reunion next year. Loss of innocence, in more ways than one.

At Junior High School in the school office serving as an 'Office Aide' during the staff lunch period. Ironically, it was my own mother who telephoned the school to inform of the tragic event and I was the one who answered the telephone.

In Chile having lunch with my parents who were flying to Boston that evening
In middle of horror fear that it was not an isolated event, airport briefly closed, fear of start of WW3
It made more sense to see as an strike to confuse US and the world prior to wide spread war than single act
My Dad always listened to news at lunch no TV no iphones back then.,
Cannot describe the horror of the news in our home and everywhere

I was 22 on my last 6mos of a 4yr enlistment in the Navy. Was in a dental chair receiving some needed dental work. Dentist had radio on when announcement was made. Was able to attend the funeral process that carried the president to the Capitol rotunda. I even stood in line for a few hours to walk past the casket.

I was a junior in high school, same as you. I don't remember the class, but the principal of the school made an announcement over the PA to let us know.

I was in my Doctor's Office with my Mom. And it came over the radio they had on in the background. I was 9 years old then. It was the first Current even news I became aware of. December 8, 1980 hit me personally far harder, the murder of John Lennon!

Freshman on guard duty at a military school. My job was to run back and forth to see the news reports on TV then report to the Commondant. Like many of us, a time a place I will always remember.

I was 14-years-old, in the eighth grade. I was a Navy dependent living on Midway Atoll. For us, the news wasn't just the tragedy of losing our President, it was the possibility of WWIII. The entire island was shut down in preparation for a possible invasion or nuclear attack. Plans were being formulated to evacuate all dependents and non-essential personnel. As an immature 14-year-old, I was excited that we just might get a chance to show them Ruskies a thing or two, but my mother was terrified.

Fortunately, it did not come to that, and life on Midway returned to normal.

Funny. While I am not sitting in the Arms Room, I am still cleaning my 1911.
