I see a marked difference between the two images.
I think the multi stacked is clearer, sharper and better defined.
Did you use PixInsight to remove the stars?
Quite impressive seeing how the stacked stacks stacked up.

Ok, my tongue is tied for today.
Love seeing the results your big telescope brings.

I've been wondering about stacking stacks of stack... (show quote)

Hi SonnyE
Thanks for checking out the images of Saturn and for the comment. The stacking of stacks seems to work well.
For these images I used the flowing software, Firecapture to control the camera, filter wheel and to take the videos
(Note: the videos where taken a 16 bit .ser files which require over 100giga bytes of disk space). For the initial stacking of each video I used Autostakkert. I then used Registax6 wavelets to clean up each stacked image. To combine each set of LRGB images and de-rotate the images I used winJPOS. To combine the stack of stacks I again used winJPOS to derotate and combine the individual color images. I did some final clean up of the images with picture window and Topaz AI routines. Since the individual frames are taken between 10ms and 20ms (depending on the filter used) no stars or moons of Saturn are bright enough to show up in the image. The stacking of stacks definitely added to the clarity and detail in the image particularly at the edges where the rotation can lose a bit of brightness and detail from the planetary rotation. Pixinsight wasn't used for these images, however I may play with using it to intensify the color as I like the color curves function it provides.

I'm envious , I did attempt 4 nights on Jupiter and failed to even get on my target , I fell into the mount , planetary isn't in my wheelhouse anymore.

Hi stepping beyond
I hope you and your mount are uninjured. Thanks for viewing the images and for the comment. Getting the planet into the field of view with using a barlow lens connected to a planetary camera with a small sensor can be difficult. I typically will start with a low power eyepiece, get the planet centered and then swap in the barlow attached to the filter wheel and camera.
