I'm looking to buy a good monitor for editing. I don't want an Apple. Can anyone please help me?

Depends on your requirements & desires.
My OTS Acer (24") and HP (23") work just fine for me. ($130-1$160)

I am too! I want one that will attach to my Windows laptop.

The first decision has to be if you want "FHD" or "UHD". The second has four times as many pixels and costs more. I've never had more than "FHD" so don't know how valuable the extra pixels would be.

My next move after that decision is to set my budget and go to Costco or BestBuy where they have great return policies. Right now, Costco has an FHD LG brand 27" at a Black Friday price of $130.

My son installed an ASUS 27" for me because I love photography.
I'm in love with it.

You can view & edit pictures on any display, but if you can afford an entry level True Graphics Display you will be happier in the long run: Here is what to look for.
For editing, you want an IPS Monitor , a wide color gamut, even illumination and preferably hardware calibration
The best value I have seen price vs Quality is the BENQ Design Vue series The PD2705 UA is 27" & 4k
B&H sells it for $579
A good display designed for Graphics and Photography makes a huge difference in editing because it can display subtleties in color and illumination, and you can match it to your printer to get WYSIWYG prints
Good Luck

One has to figure out their desires & requirements.
The OTS HD monitors are quite sufficient for my work. They should have a cable that will plug into the HDMI port on the laptop. Since we have dual monitors I don't need an external monitor for my laptop, I simply work on the desktop.
But I have plugged the laptop into a 48" VISIO TV to watch stuff.
I don't need super-duper (expensive) monitors either.
They probably look great, but not cost effective for me.
I don't need a monitor capable of discriminating 2000 hues of one color.

"OTS" is "Off-The-Shelf" by the way.
Run of the mill so to speak.

Based on research I did with a focus on price and performance, I ended up with with a Lenovo P27u-20. It's 4k and 99.5%, Adobe RGB, and around $500. I've been quite happy with it, though I admit I'm not an aficionado. The colors are good, it calibrates easily and retains calibration. I also like the ports it provides and use it as a Thunderbolt hub for other devices.
