The NENZI looks like a reasonable starter camera for a teen. It is a minimal investment and she can play and learn from it. If she really wants to get into photography she will outgrow it and then you can look into bridge cameras or used cameras. Buy the one she wants and see if it’s a passing fancy or if she develops a real talent and interest in taking it further.

Along with a transistor radio perhaps? More likely the experience will permanently sour her!

I would go with a used Nikon 3000 series. You can get a 3200 or 3300 for a couple hundred dollars with a lens.
Canon is a good choice also.
No reason to spend big bucks on a camera, it will take years to outgrow these.

Specs... she is just thinking about it. Besides still photography is deader than a doornail.

There is more professional still photography and videography happening now than in the history of the world. As for amateur photography, the last 5 years has seen more photos taken than in the entire prior history of photography. Of course most are taken with cellphones.

She can learn more and do more from the cellphone she undoubtedly already has, which undoubtedly has a camera far superior to that piece of junk.

The NEZINI 4K digital camera is an utter piece of crap. There are a dozen of the same Chinese cheapo out there with different names which is really a 5 MP fixed focus digital zoom camera phone/tablet circuit in a camera body. The stated 48K resolution is simple grossly overdone interpolation.

Most of the menu choices do nothing. How can there be face-tracking on a fixed focus camera? Smile detection, ec. do not work.

I found a few for $10-$20 used and they are box cameras with a certain appeal to the "toy camera" set.
But you cannot set the shutter speed or aperture as these are not much better than carnival prizes or time share pitch gifts.

For the person who wants a digital Instamatic 126, they can be fun.

The first camera I had as a child was a Kodak Instamatic 104 I think (126 format film), it took pretty good photos for a fixed focus camera. I still have the negatives (how ever faded). I am sure better than a digital NEZINI toy camera.

I agree, I replied earlier about my old Nikon D3100 with an 18x140 lens. I gave it to a good friend's 14yo daughter. The "guide" mode was especially helpful.

Our 16 year old granddaughter has requested some kind of digital camera for Christmas, she wants one that is lightweight but still has ISO/aperture/shutter speed controls. It should accept filters but does not necessarily need to support interchangeable lenses, but a step up from iPhone or point-and-shoot cameras. (I think lightweight is a key consideration.)

One that she suggested is the NEZINI 4K digital camera, not a brand I am familiar with.

Any suggestions?

I have a D5000 I no longer need as I have upgraded to the D7100. It includes everythng she will need until she is ready to spend a lot of money. It includes the case, another lens, filters, manual, and more. I'm going to try to add photos of the entire package below. $300 for everything + shipping. I think this would be a great starter camera.

From experience with my son i agree with comments posted here. A decent Bridge/ Mirrorless, maybe used, camera with a zoom would help her decide if she's interested or not, She's lucky to have you helping her, good luck.

That's an awesome setup at a great price. Like you, I have the D7100, but I kept my D5100 for my wife. However, I would hop on your deal in a New York minute. About cell phone cameras, the key word here is phone. They are great for spontaneous photos. They are hard to use in bright sunlight. There is nothing like a good camera for creating wall worthy photos.

I'd recommend having a talk first. Let he know she's getting a "starter" camera to learn about ISO, shutter speed, depth of field, composition, flash, lighting, etc,. How many of us started with film, and worked into digital over the years? Then I'd get her something like a used Nikon D80 with a 18-200mm lens and a year's subscription to photoshop/lightroom.

Or, just take the same amount of money and flush it down the toilet ...

Why do you say that, Paul? Why wouldn't any of the older entry level DSLR cameras be a good way to learn the front-end, the "pre-click" end, of photography?

The more responses I read suggest that there are those that are totally out of touch with what the vast majority of 16 year old girls are like. They are tech savvy, and when they refer to 'lightweight' you can guarantee this also includes 'trendy'

Adding a transistor radio would make the kid even happier. Or maybe a Ford Pinto! This is the 21st century, at least for some of us.

Now that's what I call a lightweight kit!
