Just got back from a photo trip with someone who was using the 18-270 Tamron on a Nikon (D3100). I was using the Nikor 18-200 3.5-5.6G ED on a Nikon 5100. I think his shots were every bit as clear as mine and his lens was a third of the price! I also used to have a Tamron lens on my Pentax film camera and always thought the results were excellent. Possibly quality control is not as good as Nikon, but at the price a Tamron is very hard to beat.

I bought this lens on June 2, 2009. I don't shoot any 10,000 a year shots. I'm a medium shooter you might say. I like the fact that is has a lock switch when at 18mm and it only creeps when pointed downwards. I like how it focuses and the vc is good for camera shake. I get good images and It's on my camera the time. I also have a Canon 75-300mm 4-5.6 which I don't use as much as I get 3.5 with the Tamron and the Canon Is 4 aperature. I also have a 2x converter on the Canon If I want to go further with the zoom. I've had really good service with the Tamron. One selling point is that Tamron has a 6 year guarantee where Canon only has one year.(wow) I think you'll be satisified with the Tamron. Russ

Wow, the response to this question is amazing. I was looking for a do-it-all lens and this was going to be it. I don't really have a long lens at all and I was ready to pull the trigger on Friday. Then the Canon 55-250IS was only $144 and I bought that instead. It is not the same thing but for $144 I can try it out so I tabled the Tamron for now. Thanks
