Nikon D5300 and Sigma 17-70mm

The last time I asked a question on this camera/lens combo was back in 2017.

I have since purchased the Sigma lens and have had a "problem" with the camera not shutting off the preview screen after taking a picture.

I sent the lens back to Sigma and they said all is well, yet when I put the lens back on the camera, the same issue happens; the picture is taken, I check the preview screen, yet it will not shut off unless I half press the shutter release. I've pretty much have gotten used to doing this, but am wondering if anyone else has this problem and is there a fix?

Other than that, I'm quite happy with the pictures being taken.

How long do you have the preview set for? Or, are you saying that no matter how long you have it set for, that pressing the shutter is the only way to get it to go away?

Yup, I would suspect a camera setting.

I also have a Nikon D5300 and use it extensively with a Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 lens and experience the same issue of the preview not shutting down after taking a picture. I noted this situation when I first obtained the lens. I questioned Sigma on two different occasions about this matter and was told that this was the "normal" mode of operation for the camera and lens combination. I was led to believe it was an issue with Sigma's interface with the Nikon camera. I have learned to live with the situation and now habitually lightly press the shutter or other button to close down the preview. It has become a minor inconvenience. If there is a quick fix that would remedy the issue, then I would do it. Otherwise, it is what it is.

That's an interesting anomaly.

I would suspect ‘reverse engineering’ that isn’t quite correct {and ‘not worth fixing’ at this point}.

I wonder how many DSLR’s Nikon sells today, and how many Sigma lenses are sold for them?

When the new models ended, DSLRs passed into legend. And mirrors became myth. And by 2023 only those with the longest beards could remember a time when photography was limited by mirrors.

For a discontinued D5300 model, this is much the situation: no further help beyond the vague recollections of the longest DSLR memories ...

In short, “this is no longer important to Sigma”.

Does Nikon have a similar lens? How has its price changed since the Z-mount came out?

What happens when you program Image Display = Off? Is the setting ignored and displays the shot automatically?

I have it set for about 30 seconds, but no matter what time I have it set for I have to half press the shutter release to make the image go away.

Never tried, but such that it is, I'll live with it.

With preview set to off, you can always press the preview button on the back of your camera if you are concerned wether or not the pic was composed/exposed properly. Also, reduces battery consumption with preview off.
