This is true: I stopped shaving on March 26, 1970 ... other than trimming ... and never looked back.

Clean shaven for the most part until 2018. Being rather gaunt-looking, grew the beard/moustache to fill out my face more, shape the tidy beard to make a squarer-looking jaw.

Years ago, I was clean shaven (not today), and briefly carpooled to work with this guy.

He asks: do you ever think about growing a beard?

Me, after brief pause: every morning.

Next day, he asks: do you ever think about moving closer to work?

Me, after identical brief pause: twice a day.

No more questions.

Why cultivate something on your face that grows wild in your axx...

My father said the same thing to me when I was younger! I took it to heart. Beards just do not appeal to me (or my wife) and seems to be a lot of extra work keeping them clean and not looking like a homeless person. They also seem like they would be very hot and uncomfortable in hot weather.

My grandfather gave me a double-edged Gillette razor when I started shaving when I was a teenager. I carried that razor for years and used it every day. That razor was retired years ago after being around the world several times during my military career. But I replaced it with others much like it.

Today in my 70s, I still shave every day, sometimes face and head, and prefer a double edge razor over the new multi-blade razors that are so popular. Electric razors are OK if I am in a hurry and need a touch-up but my favorite double edge in the shower is the best way for me.

Coincidentally, I started to grow a beard this past week. I started a beard at least a half dozen times during the pandemic, but never got past the 4 - 5 week mark. I’m trying to convince myself that I’m going to give this one more of a chance to fill in.

Yes! I know. Razors are a fortune!

Since I still shave every day I have researched the cost of shaving several times over the years.

I personally do not like the newer multi-blade high-tech razors. I think they shave too close which can often cause skin issues. And they are VERY expensive!

I like the plain double-edged razors and blades. The blades are very inexpensive and are readily available. Japanese and German blades seem to be the best. For the razor itself, I have found the German Mekur to be an excellent razor.

With a good quality razor and blades, you can get an excellent shave at less than $0.10 per shave. For a good close shave, the secret is lots of hot water, so I usually shave in the shower. For soap, I use a bar soap that women often use for shaving their legs. It is reasonable in price and in my opinion, is as good as any shaving lotion or expensive shaving soap. A brush can help but I cannot tell a big difference when using one.

Electric razors can also be economical. While they can be expensive to purchase, they can last for years lowering the cost per shave to pennies a day. At Costco or Amazon, a good electric razor can be purchased for around $100 and should last for 5- 8 years.

I have a mustache. I keep it because my wife says she will not talk to me if I shave it, because without it, I look like my family. LOL. No love lost there.

I am too handsome to cover my face with a beard or mustache even though I tried it for a while when I was young and today I don’t shave every day but still it’s just not for me.

I had a full beard for 18 years. Shaved it down to a Goatee for the last 25. No plans to get rid of it!

Beard and moustache here...shaving is a scam...just like cutting the grass is.

Figured both of those out very early on...beard since college...taken it off a few times...what a pain...uggh...let it grow!
