Pretty set Kathy. Very nice work. Don't eat the berries, but they are good for something.

I made my first paint with poke berries. I was 4 when I started drawing but 6 when I decided I wanted to paint. I picked the berries in the back yard, took a paring knife and split the end of a match stem many times, made a paint brush and went to my bedroom to paint. My mother found out that poke berry stains do not wash out of bed sheets.

Thanks. Maybe I need to try them as colour, not food. Good bit of info to know.

And the Juniper berries are used to make Gin! But are also not edible!

I've never heard of it. Guess I didn't live far enough south.

I grew up in the Midwest, not in the South. The song was popular in the early 70's.........probably on Rock and Roll/Pop stations.

Ah, that's the clue. Our station had country music.

Growing up, I ate Poke Sallet many times! My mother loved it, and would have me pick it when it came up in the spring. But you do HAVE to do the preparatory steps to make it edible! She always boiled/and decanted it 3 times.
For better instructions: https://www.wildabundance.net/blog/pokeweed/ Google it, too. I still eat it occasionally, too. Just follow the instructions! It is similar to spinach.

I like the other photos, too!
