I just placed a small order with Amazon, and there was a $4.99 shipping charge. Since I pay for Prime, I don't want to pay for shipping, too. I looked at the items I had ordered, and something costing $3.99 had a shipping charge of $4.99. I deleted that.

At first with Prime you have free next day shipping and then you no longer have next day shipping and they raised the price then now you have to pay for shipping.

It's supposed to be two-day shipping, and that often works, but not always. If an item isn't "Prime," there's a shipping charge. I plced two separate orders today, and they say that both arrive in two days.

Not all items on Amazon are "Prime." Never have been.
Not all sellers on the site are Amazon.

Amazon does not charge Prime customers for shipping items clearly marked with the Prime logo on the order page. The millions of third-party merchants who sell through Amazon's website do charge for shipping. It's normal. So, if you don't see the Prime logo on the item you are ordering, you should expect to pay for shipping. It's another advantage of ordering items directly from the Amazon warehouse instead of the third-party merchant's stock.
Shipping anything incurs a cost. So, the $4.99 charge by the third-party merchant shows you what it costs them to ship it to you. If you don't want to pay that, stick to ordering items marked as "Prime" items for shipping.
When on Amazon website if your a prime member click on the prime slider on item page before shopping

For some reason, I have received non-Prime items with paying a shipping charge. Sometimes, non-Prime is the only choice for what I want.
I don't have prime and most of the time (>95% of the time) there is no shipping charge if the purchase is > $25.

I believe they recently changed it to $35 and I usually wait until I have at least that amount.

That is unfortunately true.

Whoops! Another typo, and I blame that on this keyboard.
I meant to say that I've received non-Prime items without paying for shipping.
What really burns be up is these companies that will ship 1-3 small items in a large box and the shipping is more then what was purchased, they could have used flat rate shipping instead and a smaller shipping container. I get it when the the is bulky or odd shaped then flat rate shipping won't work. I order 10 lbs of coffee from Black Rifle Coffee Company about every 60-90 days and the box it comes in is so tight that there is hardly any room for packing material and the shipping is free.

That is correct and not only you pay shipping fees from non Amazon sellers it also takes much longer to receive your order.
