At the end of the month I will be in San Jose, Costa Rica, to start a cruise. I am arriving early and thought a tour of the city with a competent guide would be smart.
Does anyone have recommendations and contact information for a guide?
TIA.

Read the US State Department info on San Jose. We had no problems but apparently it’s pretty sketchy at night. The museum and opera house were impressive. We also took a walk in the jungle with a “guide” somewhere north of Jaco. He had a spotting scope and was very knowledgeable. He and others work at the parking lot of the park. We were with local expats who knew the area an how things worked. I found it to be a beautiful and friendly country.
6 or 7 years ago we took a tour of Costa Rica, including a couple days in San Jose where we had some free time. Our guide warned us to NOT take cameras with us if we spent our free time walking around the city. Enjoy but be careful.

Hi Mike, I visited San Jose in February of this year and had a couple of days on my own before I hooked up with my birding group. I booked, and enjoyed, a couple of excursions with Oropopo Experience Costa Rica (
https://oropopoexperience.com/) and enjoyed my time with them and found them to be very accomodating. They use mostly college students as their guides and I found them knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They set up a private one day tour for me (we went to an archaeological site a couple of hours out of San Jose) at a very reasonable price. On my trip I also used a Uber driver named Anthony Quiroz (+506 6023 3386 (WhatsApp);
anthonyquiroz1982@gmail.com (Email). Anthony was very reliable and knowledgeable and I recommend him without reservation. In fact, I put a blurb about him on my blog (
https://mccuration.com/anthony-quiroz-uber-driver-extraordinaire/). In my blog I cover the museums and attractions (coffee plantations, churches) in San Jose I visited on my trip (see:
https://mccuration.com/captivating-costa-rica/). Hope you have a great trip! Tom McC, McQueeney, Texas
