Cherry Hills

A seasoned veteran of UHH saw this image on my flickr account, and suggested to me that I post it here, despite it being a relatively straightforward image.
Of course, it's not exactly an image of any hills. A weeping cherry tree required a trunk cut down, and a couple of slices of that trunk were cut for my use. This is a detail of one of those slices. I'd like to encourage any critiques, however severe.

Thank you for posting, Sam! It's OK to say I was the one who urged you to share here; people are used to my dragging people in from all over UHH and other sites 
What struck me immediately is the rich color, textures and curves. I love that the curves on the left center are dark, while the ones on the right side are light, adding to the depth and 3D feel.

This is an abstraction in which we can visually go into and see things that we imagine are there. I look and see, shut my eyes again and then open and see something different. A very effective art work.
My critique is certainly not severe or negative, rather it is a positive comment of admiration to your seeing and capturing to share.

For me the color was very eye-catching and the lines of the hills made interesting graphic designs.

Rolling hills, sun rays, tunnels of light and form, it all looks good to me. Reminds me of a low relief wood carving.

No, the wood isn't wetted. The cut is rather recent, and the cherry tree wood is quite orange/reddish, and of course Photoshop allowed me to emphasize that a bit.
