They didn't allow posting of any additional accessories and offer about $350 for a mint condition Nikon Zfc body

I am pretty sure all other resellers (MPB, UPP, B&H, etc.) would be in the same ballpark, because they all need to resell at a profit. Selling your gear privately will almost always generate higher dollars, but of course with more hassle.

Yea, you have a choice: sell to a reseller {for less} and be done, or sell it ‘for yourself’ at a place such as eBay, and pay for marketing, field endless questions, complaints, etc. There there is no such thing as a “free lunch”.

If you sell on eBay, you may not offer a free no questions asked return policy, but eBay does. They will force you to accept returns from unscrupulous buyers. I will not sell on eBay anymore. The scams are rampant and their horrible policies do nothing to protect sellers. Sorting through the scams and fighting eBay when they try to screw you is not worth the effort.

B&H Photo in New York buys used equipment. I have been dealing with them for several years.

If money is a concern, sell here or on eBay. Do a search on eBay and click "Sold items" down the left column. That will show you what to expect.

If you sell to a dealer, he will have to make a profit on the items.

I think UHH is a good place to advertise equipment and get a good price for it.

Recently, I had an offer from Olympus trade-in bonus, so I took some images of one of my cameras and sent them in for a quote. I received an email back very quickly from Roberts, I think, for $225 for an EM1 MK II. Other sites are offering this same body for $700 to $800. I skipped the trade in as I wasn't really ready to move up to the OM-1.

My story is to primarily illustrate that you will generally get a better price selling it yourself compared to any of the resellers.

Thanks for the info. I am hearing comments such as yours more and more often. It seems like everyone from Amazon to Zebra is trying to screw the public these days.

No, they are trying to make money; they want to stay in business for the next guy also.

Yes, especially if you equate making money with gouging.

Do you give equipment away? Why should they? They have a choice between not ‘making money’ and staying in business. Yes, they charge more for equipment than they pay. That difference has to cover wages and rent - with hopefully a little left over for profit, which we should think of as “rent on their investment”.

My buddy used to say about other hobby equipment, "We don't buy it. We rent it and the price difference is the cost of rent"

When I lived in Seattle for a while, I had friends with boats. Their statement was that the two happiest days in the life of a boater were the day he bought the boat and the day he sold the boat.

With over fifty years of business experience, where I was charged with managing to generate a profit, I would strongly suggest that you read a basic Economics book.

If being profitable means you cannot deal honestly and fairly then you do not belong in business. I've witnessed competitors that failed while trying to take advantage of their customers (and employees and vendors) while legitimate companies built and sold quality products based on their competency and laughed while the shysters went broke.

You might want to reconsider your opinions and what you believe. For example professional wrestling is not real and the moon landings were not fake.

With over fifty years of business experience, wher... (show quote)

I HAVE AN MBA IN BUSINESS ECONOMICS.

If this were the attic, I would comment about ‘real estate tycoons’ who ‘cook the books’.

Don’t lecture me about ‘real life’.
