If folks here aren't taking a look at the black and white section, they are missing something. Some of today's (Friday) best photos, in my opinion are in the b&w section.

Thank you for the tip John. This is a section I have overlooked and I really enjoy good b&w photography. Not enjoying the new format either!

Why do you feel the need to defend b&w photography, especially to someone with a closed mind?

Because I'm on just about my last lap with this whole group of nitwits. Looking very hard for a reason to stay. Many open minds were closed once.

B&W used to be the best you could do until they developed color.

Now its just a cool fad, like tattoos and ripped jeans.

I remember some years ago visiting an art fair where I met and old gentleman who was displaying both color and B&W framed photographic images. I asked him if he sold many B&Ws. His answer: "Tourist buy color. Collectors buy B&W."

Some people consider rap music to be an art form too.

If you don't like something, then it isn't an art form?

Sorry, Sarge, but I could not disagree more. B&W is an art form, and many well-known photographers still do b&w.
Absolutely agree.

When I assisted in a class, we would have those who got really good with color. I would, jokingly, say,
"You are quite good at this. Have you considered graduating to B&W?"
I usually got that, 'Deer in the Headlights' look.

On other fora where I am active, people who post deliberately divisive posts to stimulate argument rather than discussion, are called ... well, "under-bridge dwellers," politely.

Sort of like handcrafted furniture was the best you could get until Mayfair came along.

How far back does your experience go? Kodachrome was first marketed in 1935, so you must be close to 100; no surprise that your mind is so closed.

I use B&W film sometimes. I’m sorry you think it is β€œjust a fad”. Incidentally, I have no tattoos, and my jeans are whole.
