I would much rather see a camera come out that will match the capabilities of current smartphones. Seems to me that going retro or even giving us the current stuff is just money ill spent.

I think they can package the electronics into any shape they want, with what ever features they want.

As I see it, the retro design is just a matter of picking what the shell looks like. They may be opting for ergonomics and familiar location of the controls, or just a familiar shape that screams ‘Camera!’ at first glance.

My very first camera was a Russian made Zenit-E. It was a brick and weighed like a cinder block. But it has the silvery top and black body. Also, in front of the pentaprism there is the light meter. It is in working order and I repaired it twice, the hot shoe snapped off and the shutter curtain spring became detached.

I have the Canon AE-1. Also with the same classic style. Over the years, I purchased the Canon 1v and the Canon EOS Rebel 2000. Then I moved to the 5D series.

By The Way, all the above are still operational and have served me reliably. No complaints there.

I think this is a classic style. Perhaps a multiple memory slots, easy functionality and and multiple body colors such as all white, blue, yellow, etc.
The lens mount should be compatible otherwise multiple brands without adapters.

I am sure that many cell phone users will swear by their ease of use and multiple editing features.

Since we have the technology to build amazing cameras they could be built in editing functions.

A couple of last remarks:
I would like to buy a camera without having to take a mortgage on the house. Also I would like to have an owner’s manual that I don’t need an engineering degree and is 300 pages or less.

Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts.

Why colors??????

I remember only Silver and Black from those days.

Canon has seen how well retro-style digital cameras have sold for Fuji, Nikon, Sony and wants in on this party also.

Cheers

I'd like to see the SX50 returning

It has to come down to what is the best marketing ploy. The "look" of a retro camera is a statement on style and even fashion. It has to have the appearance that will be noticed by the broadest audience.
The AE-1 or something similar in look, hands down. It's got the silvery bits that stand out, and the bold white lettering. One could even put more silvery details on it to give it an even more retro look. That might not be historically correct, but it isn't all about that.

FTb or AE1 program. Anything using breechlock lenses. Too much to ask?

Good comment, thanks. Do you really think Canon would do such a thing? I'm going on 80, and I seen most cameras in those years. Why won't some company change it all up and put three or four lenses on a camera like cell phones have or will have?

Very heavy I would think.

I’d love to see the A-1 as a ‘retro’ camera, (I still own one of several), but there is just not enough room in one to make it a sorta-modern-equipped-what-consumers-would-be-wanting digital camera. Therefore, my vote would be for the F-1!

Your cell phone with those teensy tiny lenses. Think how much a camera would weigh with three normal-for-them lenses.

My vote is for the A-1 with the AE-1 being a close second.
