Not sure why Nikon introduces a new lens when they can not fill the orders. I bought the Z9 and used my 200-500 with adapter and when this came out I sold my lens and now can't find this anywhere. I put my order in months ago and my update keeps prolonging it. If I knew this I would of held off on my sale of the 200-500.

Just received my Z 180-600 from B & H - ordered it in June.
will plan on doing some playing this weekend.

I think I answered it in my last sentence. I had an offer for the lens and took it thinking I can live without it a month maybe. Oh well

Nikon has a refurbished 200-500 rite now if someone didn't buy it. Then resell. Might take a $ hit but you'll be shooting.

Exactly what I did. Who knew that three months later we'd still not know when it's coming?
As for "testing," I don't do that, I just buy a lens after reading reviews and detertermining if that's what would work. I'm 3 and a half hours drive from the nearest camera store so I buy online. The chances that you get a bad one are slim, and I'm not that fussy anyway about minor annoyances.

I ordered direct from Nikon early on the day it was announced. I was hoping mine would be in the first batch. It wasn’t. I heard that first batch didn’t even fill the NPS orders. Three weeks later I got a call from a local brick & mortar, telling me they had one available. Luckily they held it for me until I got back. I can only assume Nikon gave them info about my order.
Oh, and I still have my 200-500 available if you’re interested. 😜🤪

Ordered mine from B&H on announcment day and Nikon direct in mid-September. Order fills last week by Nikon, B&H order canceled.

Confirmed my order on new Nikon 600 mm had actually shipped yesterday....Started to sell off my DSLR equipment.
