This is a 1938 Talbot Lago T 150 C SS Teardrop. The few remaining examples are very valuable high-end collector cars. A prime example of one sold a couple of years ago for $ 13 million +. This one you'll see here would surely sell for a lot more than that. It is a one-of-a-kind issue of that famous car.

This car was ordered and built for the Duke Philippe de Massa. He intended to race it and it was modified in some ways to accommodate him. The chassis was lowered 2 inches and stretched 4 inches...all for reducing it's aerodynamic profile. He requested a rear window that could be opened for better cabin cooling while racing. They did that for him and it is the only Teardrop that has that feature. He also wanted a larger fuel tank, so they created more room behind the seats to accommodate him. Again, the only one to have that feature.

The car was raced in the 1939 Le Mans. Early in the race, a car ahead of him blew an engine and spread oil all over the track. The Duke hit the oil, spun out, and dinged parts of the suspension. He was out of the race. He decided to retire the car and preserve its history. In person, it's beyond beautiful.

It looks very "Jag-ish" doesn't it? Do you suppose there was some influence exchanged there somewhere?

Thanks for the visit.

You really never about that kind of stuff, Terry. If I had to bet, I'd bet that the British would have been prone to copy the French.

Thanks, Dennis.

You keep pumping out great scenic shots and assorted other stuff and I'll try and keep the pipeline full of cars, barns, and who knows what.

That is really drop dead gorgeous, Tom, and the story ... your narrative ... behind it is well written, as usual, and mucho informative. I'm not a car guy. I drive a dinky little Prius Prime. But your photos have me licking my lips.

Thank you, Mel.

There's no question, Mel, that you have an eye for beauty....a trained eye, if I may say, that lets you see beauty in a place or people that may not be so obvious to most of us. There's been plenty of times that I've finished up a series you posted with a much greater appreciation for the beauty of the people or place that previously escaped me.
