I tried to clean my Sony A77v sensor without a cleaning kit, so I am wondering if I should get a professional cleaning done next time, so I can check to make sure I didn't mess my sensor up. I think the spots seem to be greatly reduced, and shouldn't affect my landscape photos, but haven't gone out yet. Test shots from before and after the cleaning.

You appear to have got rid of 99% of it. Spots are at their most visible against a smooth background so what you have left won't be visible against clouds, landscape etc. To make the spots more visible (for the purposes of checking), use a higher f-stop.

You can also use Lightroom to check for sensor spots
Step 1: Take Your Photo Into Develop Mode. You're most likely to see dust spots on photos with a lot of sky in the
background, or white areas. ...
Step 2: Select the Spot Healing Tool. ...
Step 3: Switch On Visualise Spots. ...

Looks like you did a decent job cleaning the sensor. If done without proper materials you could permanently damage the sensor (you do not want to do this) Kits are inexpensive, sensors are not.

You dont say how you cleaned that , but a vacuum cleaner hose with lens off and take a couple of shots at 3 sec will clear out the dust every time . And no , you wont suck the camera guts out , just the dust .

I never heard of this--are you being serious or is this said sarcastically?

I cleaned it with Zeiss lens cleaner wipes, 12 individual wipes. Used cellphone flashlight to shine light on the sensor, and also wiped down transition lens. Don't have money for LR right now, so am using Sony Imaging Edge Desktop and PlayMemories Home for my photos.

Get a life or show us your credentials as ‘site monitor for the world’ that would justify that comment. Sensor cleaning is certainly a valid photography discussion, but perhaps you’d prefer an endless diatribe on inane minutia.

3 sec was what showed about 80 to 90% in the histogram, and that is what most YouTube videos said to do.

Based on your “after” photo, you’ve done a great job.
