Well, they are obviously cartridge cases, as in ammunition. The second, I agree is probably a shotgun case. The first is strange with a crimp midway along the case. Maybe a blank, noise maker?

1st one looks like a brass shot shell, 2nd one obviously a shot shell, looks about 410. Had an old 44 special shot shell that had a formed wooden cover to hold the shot in.
