i own both the Sony a7r iv and the rx10iv iv. I recently used the first for a trip to Antarctica and the second for a subsequent trip to Peru-Ecuador-Galapagos. The rx10iv is so much easier as a travel camera and at least so far (I am still post-processing) the image quality is quite comparable at all the focal lengths I've used. The only differences would be if you are interested in enlarging by large amounts.

Guys .... the thread is 2-years old, who cares?

I cared which is why I rattled the cage. Was hoping someone (anyone) might give some feedback on the P950 before I committed to keeping it. I already know the Sony is a fine camera, but still no match for the Nikon in two ways... reach and price, which are the two reasons I bought it three weeks ago when I tried to resurrect this thread. I got a Nikon USA refurb for $610 delivered. That's less than half the price of a new Sony RX10-iv and under ideal conditions it produces an acceptable image at over three times the distance covered by the Sony. I've decided to keep it because it's an unexpectedly good walk-about solution for me at about two and a half pounds. I've become a fair-weather photographer and that's where it shines. (I still think the king of the lightweights is the Nikon One v3 with the 10-100 manual zoom lens at about a pound and a half.)

I have owned a P950 for a couple of years and am very happy with it. I purchased it as a small, light camera that I can keep with me all the time for those unexpected nature photography opportunities that I encounter in my day-to-day activities. The wide angle to 2000mm equivalent lens & camera RAW features make it an ideal camera for family activities and social events. The noise performance above 800 ISO was a little disappointing but Topaz Noise AI takes care of that. For serious nature photography I have a Canon EOS R7 body several EF & RF lenses. However, the P950 certainly meets my expectations! Here are a few examples of photos taken with the P950 recently.

Currently I am shooting with a Nikon 7100 (original) with an 18-300mm lens, which I love. However, I'm looking for a longer lens and a lighter body. I love the RX10 iv (except for the price), however the hand grip is a little too wide for my hand, and therefore uncomfortable, which is why it is no longer a consideration. That brings me to the P950. Not only is it very comfortable to hold, the long lens and lighter weight is exactly what I'm looking for. I would like to hear from anyone who owns or has used this camera, and would value their opinion. I've done extensive research on line, but want to hear from people who have this camera. Are there any other bridge cameras I should be looking at? I use my camera for travel, nature, people and architecture.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.

Tina

I have a P950, and I like it, but it isn't my most-used camera. The size is good, it's easy to use, and the zoom is amazing. No complaints from me.
