NIKON batteries or aftermarket?

Now before anyone says "DO a Google search", I have tried that with little success, and here on the Hog, it seems the last post addressing the problem was from ~ 2017.
I have a "famous name" manual for my D 7500, which states that the author could not get any 3rd party battery to work in the D 7500.(?)
I replaced my alleged "factory" battery with a 3rd party unit...one of a pair my wife gave me a couple of Christmases ago, "just to see". So far, so good...it hasn't let out any of the Magic Smoke that makes our cameras work so well.
I have more than a half-dozen batteries, obtained from different sources, and for some reason, I have kept those for my D 7100 separate from the others. I am wondering if they all might not power both of my cameras with no problems? If I load a battery, and the "battery status" window reads 100% charged, and age as new, the battery should work just fine, right?
I have 3 EN-EL 15s,(no suffix) 2 Ravpowers, An EN-EL 15b, and a no-name CX-EN-EL15. I'm not sure if any one of them are "genuine" Nikons. They look good, but the differences between "genuine" and "fake" are so small, and manufacturers are surely smart enough to correct the flaws in the years since 2017. OR?
As needed, I plan to replace the batteries, hopefully with Nikon units, but other than from Nikon, which are co$tly, how can a person be sure of getting the genuine article from a local camera store or on line?

This discussion actually has come up here multiple times since 2017. It has never been resolved. The overall consensus is that just about every sort of 3rd party battery will allow the cameras to light up and snap pictures. A few cases have been reported of batteries swelling and being hard to remove from the battery compartment. Most or all of those have been aftermarket batteries.

No minds have been changed, as far as I know. I have opinions, but no longer argue them. NikonUSA has a section on their website discussing counterfeit items and helping identift counterfeits.

counterfeit is something made to pass as something else. Third party does not try to do that.

I used aftermarket batteries as spares with a D2X, a D70, a Z7ii and a Z50. I had no problems with any of them. When I tried to put an aftermarket EN-EL 15c in my Z8 the camera said it would not communicate with the camera and I had to use a genuine Nikon battery. I got a Nikon battery as a spare.

The OP specifically asked about how to know he was buying genuine Nikon batteries.

Open to interpretation... Unless the op means used or expired, a choice that will open an extremely hazardous can of worms.

I always buy my OEM batteries from B&H or my favorite camera store in Kent Ohio.

I have used 3rd party battery's in my D810 and they fine. When I tried them my D850 not so good, battery error msg. I feel although originals are expensive you don't buy them that frequently to be a problem.

So, you think OEM batteries are too expensive and so you want to save some bucks with a cheaper battery. Being cheap can lead to it's own issues. Nikon does do research on their camera's, and they recommend their own batteries for reasons other than being cheap.
If you want to be cheap, why not watch this, you may not want to be cheap again.

Got free a couple of Watson batteries...they were overpriced at free. Saved 50% on Vivitar and they provide 50% battery use. If you buy a Porsche, it runs on premium fuel.

Amen, aftermarket batteries do not last as long and do not give the same amount of life as they get older, unlike OEM batteries. Truth.
And, many camera manufactures warn against using aftermarket batteries in their camera's.
I love folks who spend almost $4,000.00 on a Z8 and then buy a aftermarket battery because they can save $30.00. Just does not make any sense. But there will always be folks that are CHEAP and leave their common sense at the door.

I've used aftermarket batteries in everything, and I haven't noticed any difference, except that I can buy twice as many batteries for the same amount of money.
