They do look like the belt for the M60 I know but I never used the blank so I have never seen the blank.

The ammo shown was belted for a 30 or 50 cal machine gun. M14's used mags. The M60 used 308's belted ammo.

Really it's not ammo
They are 7.62 blanks for a machine gun

You got it.

After working on a Marine Base, for nearly 25 years, you would think
that I'd get it, right off. I can see the (blank cartridge tips).
They might look harmless, but the Marines would often toss
unused or misfired cartridge blanks into the bushes after their
training day. (Then along comes a brush fire). The blanks
and live unexpended rounds come alive. I've had to pick several
bits of brass out of my lower legs while fighting brush fires on base.
(safety glasses are essential, here).

The cartridge (links) took my eye off of the prize.
You got it. br br After working on a Marine Base,... (show quote)

I thought more people here would recognize them as blanks 😉

Not having been in the military there are a lot of modern rounds I haven't seen, and these were given to me 40-50 years ago.

I think these are from a later vintage, like 1960's +

Possible they do look a little too long for 30.06
I don't think they're .308 and too small a dia. for a .50 cal.

7.62 .308 winchester same caliber, military ammo has thicker base for hotter machine gun loads, on a side note I reloaded .223/5.56 brass from Fort Hood and military brass needed a small base resizing die or it would jam in semi auto rifles and not chamber in bolt actions. Looking at the picture I'm pretty sure they're 308/7.62 just a close up shot photo.

Yes, they go into the throat where the projectile goes so the can build enough pressure to cycle the action
