Try washing with tomato juice. That is what we used to suggest, we being the regional poison center, on the advice of several veterinarians, and it seemed to help.

And raccoons, mountain lions and bears. You forgot those. Our next door neighbor lost four sheep to mountain lions. He was using them to keep his grass under control. He finally had to move them. A bear got into our garbage last year.

The dogs need to pee and poop, and limiting them to daylight hours outside, especially in the winter, means accidents in the house. I'm looking for a humane solution to the issue my dogs are having. I have someone coming out in a couple of days who claims they relocate skunks.

In every single location where people have settled, they have intruded on wildlife. Rural, urban, no exception. It can't be avoided. As the population increases, so will the intrusion. We moved up here to be close to family.

This has nothing to do with photography. It is in the Chit Chat section, along with a zillion posts that have nothing to do with photography. This is allowed.

Our Orkin relocated a whole family of raccoons digging up our bushes for grubs. Gone and forgotten ($600)😊

Your property and surrounding environment can handle "x" amount of skunks (and other wildlife). If you successfully trap all of the skunks and have them moved elsewhere, different skunks will move in the whole thing starts all over again.

Yes you are right and this has been stated by other members too because animals are territorial but I am not sure of skunks.
NOW I NEED TO BE CLEAR HERE: Pay attention Ok all you responders on this thread.
I am NOT coming from a Skunk hugging, PETA, whatever else bleeding heart BS.
I just offered a comment on what I KNOW works from experience. Hell ! I had a family of skunks living under a house I lived in at one time. I have used this at my mothers house.
So I only suggested the Orange Oil or Peppermint oil because I know it works if sprayed around the perimeter in a Wide swath, I would do the wide spray just to be sure, Because it is something that is QUICK and affordable.
Period !
I am not opposed to the other suggestions offered here but we must try to put ourselves in his place and visualize his location and situation. As one member noted, his state or municipality may not allow certain things especially in California.
The skunks food source in his yard ? well how long will this take to get rid that that ? and next season it will return. So how long will it take for the skunks to figure this out ?
If there is a smell they do not like they just move on, and this includes mountain lions, bears, raccoons, opossums, dinosaurs, big foot etc.
If sprayed on the yard as a foliage spray this may get rid of the grubs too. And is not poison and the grass will love it too.
Oh well, the aliens just landed so it is time for me to donate some brain tissue, but all seriousness, I shared what I know because he reaching out here on UHH for help.

Uh yea, just spend you whole day and night patrolling the property for the rest of your life. And after you eventually and finally die or move away, more critters will just keep coming back.
Well you guys who think that shooting them is the answer, you are either serious or just mouthing. So, ask to visit the OP and camp out and you guys patrol his property and shoot them.
Being realistic Bruce.

I hate to say this to a fellow Texan, but some things must be said.¬ I can only speak for myself, but I only shoot what I eat except predatory or nuisance animals. I’ve only shot two skunks in my life; neither did I eat.

One I mistakenly trapped while trying to relocate raccoons. It was in an old-school open mesh cage. I had set it near the back porch where I kept the garbage cans that the raccoons were raiding. It was a four-plex where I had three other families living. The dang thing kept spraying, which none of us appreciated. I SHOT IT since I wasn’t about to get close enough to enjoy the odeur du jour.

The second time was at my Uncle’s ranch. The county was having an outbreak of rabies, and one of the infected animals was a skunk. We had a nightly visit from Pepé Le Pew, and since my Uncle raised animals, we didn’t want to take the chance. None of the skunks ever returned.

I’m always serious about shooting. If the OP were close by, I’d try to help him out, but he lives in – dare I say it – California! Now, I love the beauty of California, having spent about 12 years living there. However, that was a much different California than today. I have no desire to go back until common sense again prevails. Guns are much maligned, but it has been my experience that there is nothing more dangerous than a progressive liberal with a political voice. I'm speaking about the California Legislature.

Little known because it offends people. There exists a product called Skunk Off, every mortuary and morgue has it standard in their facility. One no more than three drops and the offending odor is neutralized for hours. It works on all odors. I was a Path photographer at a major University hospital and it was use regularly.

We use ammonia. They were under a shed so we soaked a rag and shoved it under. You may want to sprinkle it along the fence line.

I was wondering if a low (2' high) solid fence or a low dense wire fence around the property might do it. Chickenwire, maybe. Skunks are not climbers.

They are diggers. I read that any fencing for this issue must go a foot into the ground. I'm not going to spend the money on 300 feet of such fencing.

I have heard that moth balls help keep them at bay and massingel douche (?) is what we used to recommend in the pet store for eliminating the odor. Seemed to work.
