fall/winter vacation in Florida

I'm planning a trip to Florida and would like some suggestions on sites to see. The time frame could be as long as two weeks or more depending on the sites.

I realize that I'm responding to the general forum intentionally because I didn't specify where in Florida. We have never vacationed in Florida so we're open to suggestions. Our interests are landscapes and just beautiful scenery. We don't party and we're not into the nightlife. I guess one of the reasons we've never vacationed in Florida is because we're not beach goers, we don't skydive or water ski. We thought that the fall/winter season would be the best time to avoid crowds and hurricanes. I'm more interested in places to photograph.

everglades NP. even better is Shark River, ride the tram. Coral Castle near Miami, drive alligator alley rt 41 lots and lots of parks to stop at. some have board walks. you never know whatyou'll see on them. Naples zoo, Naples botanical gardens. late winter early spring, the rookery on west coast ( its name is gone but if Interested I can find it) Tamps bush gardens, take the tram and lots of wild animals to shoot. Going north Apopka wild life drive, I can go on and on, best thing is, where in Fla do you want to start?

If you came after Thanksgiving you will be running into the snowbirds. That means super crowded. Travel times by car can double or even triple at times.
There are many state parks that are worthwhile. If you are in the Tampa area go to Ybor City.

Crowds? LOL (sorry A.T.), Fall/Winter season is when its most crowded, its Snowbird season. Concur with Longshadow, the Space Center is an excellent stop. Other places of interest are Amelia Island for a 'quaint' Florida, St Augustine for a historical Florida, Crystal River for a 'Springs' Florida, Sanibel Island for the 'beautiful beach' Florida, the Everglades and of course any of the Keys Islamorada/Key West, St Petersburg, Miami Beach for the Art Deco and the beautiful homes....just a few suggestions....CHEERS!

You have a lot of good responses here. Just remember, it is about 2 hrs to drive across the state. It's about 5.5 hrs to go from Miami to Jacksonville. Same thing Jacksonville to Pensacola is a long drive. The southern part of the state is more tropical. The North has several nice Forested areas. Orlando is tourist Central. West Coast beaches are sugar sand, east coast beaches are a little rough to swim but you weren't interested in that. Beach walks are delightful on either coast. Tampa and St. Pete/Clearwater and South to Manatee and Sarasota county have lots of nice parks, historic areas, museums, the lists are endless. The Everglades are awesome especially in Winter. Airboat rides will give you a glimpse into that magical landscape. It's also peak bird nesting and great star gazing during those months. And less mosquitoes!
