One carries a big white lens to overcome ….shall we say shortcomings. When I carry my Oly gear men want to be me and women want to be with me. Crowds part as I walk by. Strangers stop and stare in slack-jawed admiration. Or at least I THINK that is why they’re pointing at me.
It's getting pretty deep, 🤪🤪🤪

I have done that several times, but will repeat here for you. Controls are too small and too close together. Too many important functions are accessible only via the menu, including ISO. Mirror instead of prism viewfinder. Only a single command dial (on the top/front) on many of the models, making manual exposure awkward and slow to accomplish. Batteries are too small. No grips available. No internal focus motor. Strap loops hard molded in the body (no swivel action). The list continues, but this should be enough to give you an idea.

Perhaps so. I have no more energy to try to figure it out or to worry about it. But my stance doesn't change.

No, I think Larry pretty much nailed it.

Your obsessive dislike of the Nikon entry-level cameras is laughable. You should have learned by now that just because YOU don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s bad.
“Dollar for dollar, the Nikon D3500 is the best camera you can buy.”. (Ken Rockwell)
I usually rely on Ken Rockwell's advice before a purchase and as a result I checked some of his other information which I found to be quite interesting.
Be sure to check out the last two paragraphs you Canon lovers. "As of 2024 Canon just happens to make the best cameras there are..." get ready, here come the "Ken Rockwell" haters.

With the wrong brand, success is probably 99% luck. But with Canon equipment, it's 100% the photographer.
You said it!
Because only a true master can overcome the shortcomings of Canon!
🤣😂🤣
The best camera is the one that meets all your needs. For example: I have a disability and require a LOT of programmable buttons on my camera. I actually have 3 buttons programed the same way! But I also change how some are programed as needed. I used Canon gear for 37 years before switching brands.
My current camera is the BEST....for me.

That’s one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve seen on this forum!!!
I’m pretty sure he means they can be a nightmare to use if you want to progress past auto mode.

There is one possible misconception that I want to make sure doesn't develop. I love Nikon cameras. I have a couple of them, plus some older ones that I still shoot from time to time. My only issue is with the entry-level models.
We have a number of Nikons at school. 3xxx's and 5xxx's. Several technology and art teachers have bought personal cameras. Those are all Canons. They chose them because of the school Nikons. But when I've let them use my D500 (and once my D300), they said Wow! I'm going to get a camera like that!
I sincerely believe that Nikon's beginner cameras have cost them dearly in their competitive journey.

Amen! I would add that there are many brands that fit that description and will yield indistinguishable results. Mirrorless is the direction all brands are heading like lemmings. It seems like the unfriendly menus are the case even within brands when spanning more than a few years.
Pick one and learn through use. Good luck.
Now that’s hilarious, heading to mirrorless like lemmings. Looks to me like they’re heading to technology that DSLR’s will never achieve.

I really think you missed the point. Those cameras are fine if all you ever want is to shoot in auto mode. They lack the external controls to effectively shoot in manual mode. And it’s moot because they no longer make them.

Not the hater but he’s certainly not somebody I go to for advice. The guy shoots JPEG in auto and never seems to shoot anything demanding. Just like most others with photo blogs/YouTube channels, it’s all about stirring things up and getting clicks.
For the intended viewer, it's Content of the image that matters. I never had a customer asked me about the camera I used.
