That place is known locally as the Eklutna Tailrace. Across the road is the Eklutna powerplant which is a hydroelectric power plant supply power to Anchorage. It’s powered by water from Eklutna Lake via a long tunnel that was drilled through the mountain to allow water to flow to the plant. It then flows into the Knik River, which is the body of water you see in the photos. It is a well-photographed location. I don’t know where the term “Tailrace” came from, but probably has to do with terminology related to the water exiting the power plant into the river. It’s also a very popular place to fish when the salmon are running in the summer.
And those are some very nice photos of the Tailrace.

Absolutely beautiful set. Alaska has so many opportunities!
Call me nieve, but seriously? I'm not much of a phone person, so I can't tell if you are serious or not. Hard to believe they were shot with a cell phone. Nicely done!

You should also post these in the Smartphone Photography section. They are excellent examples of what a smartphone camera can do. That section is for all smartphone cameras, not just iPhone cameras.
Love these! #3 captures one thing I love about many rivers in Alaska. Wide, shallow river-plains with sandbars and many channels; like the rivers have so much real estate they can just spread out their waters wherever they want. Beautiful photos, and good on you for taking these scenes also with your Z8. I sometimes shoot the same scenes with my Motorola and D750, as it is easier to share out from my phone, yet have my more marketable files in my camera.

Real beauties! I'm headed that way in May -- makes me wish I was going in fall instead.
