Given how much my use of Neo has declined, from my perspective $300 is too much. That's almost 2 1/2 years of Lightroom including all the upgrades. Not a close call at all. In 2 1/2 years Neo without paid upgrades will be much farther behind Lightroom than it is today. The only thing I use Neo for now is adding sunrays or replacing the sky. It does those better than Adobe but I can't think of anything else it even does as well as Adobe.

Of course, since I'm basically starting from scratch again, it appears that both LR and NEO would do the job nicely. And since I'm sure there were big differences between my familiar LR3 and the newest versions, I may be better off with NEO. Also, cloud storage does not excite me. And I have the option to rent NEO for less than $8 per month.
Thanks once again for feedback!

So agree. I don't know how much function of LR 3 was used but saving the source and the output file, negates all the editing you did which is stored in the catalog which will not transport to a different editor. I may be odd man out but I often process a photo 3-6 different ways using LR virtual copy feature. A lot of editing time could be lost. And by the way, LR has been adding new functions frequently such as masking and the latest denoise all for the same $10 a month. Can easily enhance any old photos using the years of added functionality.

Oh, oh. It never occurred to me that my edits would be lost. Well, now I have some debating to do. All my edits were fairly basic...exposure, cropping, fill lighting. So I need to decide whether to continue with LR or to make batch process photos in NEO using templates.

Thanks for the input!

Lightroom has 2 versions. One involves cloud storage and is called Lightroom. I don't use that. The one I use is called Lightroom Classic. Imagine Lightroom 3 with 15 years of new toys. It looks and feels the same but can do tons more

Sigh, I was perfectly happy with LR3. It did everything I need it to do. The older you get the more crave "simple". Thanks once again for the feedback.

The LR version uses the cloud and is a functional subset of the classic version. LRc uses local space although it gives you some space if you want to use it for storage. LR is more for say a tablet or small PC with minimum hard drive, etc

Although I chimed in to this thread with YouTube tutorials on Neo before, I’m back with a different comment.
I have/had Luminar 2018, Luminar 3 and 4. I became frustrated by the constant updates that required payment even though they fixed the bugs for free. I have no knowledge of Luminar AI or Neo as I bailed out before then. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the $10/month for Lightroom Classic. I am not a heavy used but I feel I get more enjoyment from that $10/month than just about anything else I spend money on.
The newest Lightroom masking tools are so incredible. I feel there is a different emphasis in LR than Luminar. Remember, I have not checked out the newest Luminar though. I felt Luminar was more into enhancements using their presets. I felt I have more control with Lightroom. Take a look at Jim Nix’s newest LR tutorials on YouTube. He has some interesting comments. Also, I previously mentioned Anthony Morganti. I frequently look at his LR tutorials as he has given me a lot of insights.
You can do a trial of each and see what works.
If you do not choose LR, you can export your previous work if you want to save what you had done.

I have no interest in cloud storage. First, nothing I have is essential for my survival or National Security. Second, I don't want to pay for it since I have multiple backups here.

I've gotten at least three updates for Neo - no charge.

Inl,

Thanks for the tips. I'll check out the LR tutorials on the websites you mentioned.

I've been using NEO as a stand-alone editor for quite some time - find it a very good tool and rarely go back to PS, LR or ON1 any more, all of which are on my Win11 desktop.

Thanks for the feed back Bob,
I did purchase the program about a month ago and have been very happy with it so far. A couple of minor glitches with two of the AI functions but that's due to outdated hardware on my end. Time for a new computer.

. . . I sometimes think the camera manufactures are part of a plot involving computer manufactures - as the sensor increase in size the need for a bigger/better computer occurs . . .:-)
