Exactly! No rap-crap for me.

And what you know about marketing/music can be summed in one word: None. Go fire up your Lawrence Welk re-runs, geezer. Literally millions listen to rap and buy a gazillion songs, but because you don't like it, so it can't be "music." People have dissed jazz and rock for the same reason. Not your generation, homie, so don't worry about it.
You have no idea about my music preferences. Marketing? Is that relevant to the quality of music. Have you ever been to a symphony orchestra performance? A Broadway Show? A jazz concert? I noticed you have been a UHH member for 9 months and posted 1 article. You are considered a troll.
Go find a bridge.

You are a Troll. I did not realize that. My mistake. Sorry I wasted my time writing a response. Go back to THE ATTIC!
Such anger and insulting replys here. Lighten up folks. It's just a matter of personal taste. It's not life and death.
I am not a fan of lima beans, but I don't disparage those who do like them. I merely choose not to eat them. I don't particularly care for square dancing, but I don't disparge those who do. I leave the dosey doe-ing to those who enjoy promenading home. I could go on, but suffice it to say that there are a lot of things I don't necessarily care for but I find that I am happier when I don't impose what I don't enjoy on myself and leave that to those folks who do. I wonder if I am missing something here. Are all of you who responded so vociferously against the way a particular subset of our demographics, largely minority and youth across the racial spectrum express themselves, are you actually being forced to listen to rap music? Mark, and others, very often share on this forum examples of music they enjoy. Are they forcing their preferences on the rest of us? Absolutely not. We have the freedom to choose not to listen. I don't remember ever seeing a posting from someone offering up a selection from the "rap genre". Perhaps this has been done, but I suspect now if it happens, it will be in disparaging fashion. Then when someone does have the audacity to use the word "geezers" to describe the mostly old white folks (of which I am one) who are so upset over what someone else happens to like, and which they are in no way required to take part in, then that person is called a "troll". There was a time when Keith Richards and his cohorts in the Stones were considered by many of the older set as drug laden bunch of sexual misfits hellbent on corrupting the youth of the world. Richards, in his wonderfully written autobiography, Life, writes about this on the very first page of the book when the Stones run afoul of the drug possession laws in Fordyce, Arkansas. I am wondering why this struck such a raw nerve with so many of you. When you are attacking rap are you also attacking the creators of that style. I was raised on a farm in western Iowa, if someone laid into the farm culture, FFA, 4-H, etc, I would feel myself to be under attack. We have so much animosity in this country toward each other that it is sad that we can't do more to help others feel more welcomed and included, especially since lonliness has been declared a major health problem. I see the harsh words I read in these exchanges as a thin veneer covering a much deeper ugly reality. As far as "what about them" I say "Yes, we all need to work on these issues and a good place for each of us to start is with ourselves, myself include.

More Keith:
“what rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there.”
He continued: “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.”
Yep, I always listen to people who have consumed probably every drug on the face of the Earth. Does he even know where he is half the time?

And you are a rap hater. Go tell the neighborhood kiddies to "get off your lawn."

Yeah, "your" quality of music. Been to dozens of concerts and symphonies as well as jazz. Rap isn't my music of choice, but I have no problem if others want to listen go, move along, Grandpa, go check out the lunch menu at the senior center and contemplate the move to the Sun Belt.

Unlike you, I just hate the "music", not the people.

We don't have any kiddie's here. BTW. I lived in NM for over a year.

Says the man who uses ad hominem attacks, calls them troll, and tells them to find a bridge. Sure, I got you.....

Literally millions of people buy it and make their stars rich. Just cause you don't think it's music doesn't stop people from buying it. Your opinion is just that and millions are voting with their cash. Might want to sit this one out, homie.

It lacks melody and that where the problem lies.
