Free Computer Texting

Is there a free app that will let me text from a computer? When I Google that topic, I get a "Free List." I also get "Free Trial" offers. This isn't a necessity, just a minor convenience, so paying isn't an option.

Jerry, I have Mac products. Years ago, somewhere on my phone, I found something that asked if I wanted to sync all my products--phone, iPad, and computer. I said yes, and that gave me a texting icon on the bottom row of my computer. Sorry I can't be more help.

If it’s Windows - Send and receive text messages from your PC tells you how - For more information, see Introducing Microsoft Phone Link and Link to Windows.

In a pinch you can always send a text via email. The text address is <phonenumber>@something, but the something changes depending on the provider. You can get the part after the @ for most major providers here

I've used this a lot, but there are some limitations. It only shows text messages that are less than 30 days old, even though they still show up on your phone. You can text to anyone in your phone's address book or anyone else in your text history in the past thirty days, but it doesn't seem to have the ability to text random numbers. I thought I got that to work, but the last time I tried it, it didn't.

When I had an Android phone and my wife had an iPhone, texting was erratic. It sometimes took 24 hours or more for a text to work its way from one to the other. So I got an iPhone and that solved the problem. I never did any texting from my Win10 computer.

When I got a MacBook I was able to text from the computer and I find it handy.

I've been using MightyText for a few years. It works well and syncs on all my devices (laptop, tablet, and phone). Of course, there's a "premium" version offered, but you don't need it.

I tried the MS thing, and it wanted a credit card number, although it said it would not charge me. No, thanks!

I use that, as well. The only problem is connecting to Android/Google devices (really meaning: unable to)

Jerry, I have all Mac products.. I can Text from my mac book pro, Answer a phone call on it, get Emails on my Phone and when making a Grocery list it automagically (NW) appears on my phone or vice versa.. I am not sure just how this happens but it is done.. It is that time of year to visit the Apple Store..

I’ve been able to do that for years with my Mac. But make sure it’s turned off. If you’re away from home you don’t want your wife to read your text.

You married a woman who can read? That was your first mistake. 😂
