Even today, some dishes are manufactured using lead, antimony, arsenic, and other ingredients not usually found on your shopping list. Click on the link below.

Hey Jerry I don't know whether to thank you or not. My every day dinner set is Corelle, given to us as engagement present 1994. Now it's called "vintage!!!" That's bad enough but now corelle say its best used for display only? More research to do but I can't imagine using anything else it so light and slim.

Done some research on other sites, google "is corelle safe" mixed results. Only dangerous when very worn or scratched. I don't use a dishwasher mine are in like new condition I'm not going to change. I'll file the information in my head along with other "do good" stories. Cheers.
I always thought I had Corelle, and maybe I do. It doesn't say "Corelle" on the back, though. Also, I don't see my pattern listed on Corelle sites. I'm almost 80, so I think the lead has done any damage that it's going to do.
Years ago there was quite a fuss about this. Crystal decanters can be a big problem, the lead can be leached out by any organic acids present (i.e., vinegar eats lead) leading to horrendous levels. Same was found using crystal baby bottles for orange juice, etc. It's interested that vinegar can dissolve lead where sulfuric acid does not. Lead acetate is called sugar of lead because it tastes sweet, as stated on tv videos, "Don't try this at home".
I realized that most of my dishes are old and painted and from China. I wonder if I should buy all new dishware.

Well if your dishes from China I don't think they are very old.
Our daily eaters are Corelle Galloway, but when we first got married, we fed ourselves off of Melmac which we thought was about one step up from a high quality paper plate. Now I just checked out Ebay and some of the patterns or styles are bringing quite a bit, probably more than when they were new.
