This was taken in June when the male hummers are at their peak of color, and aggressiveness.
In June the females are on their nests or feeding an early hatch. The males are not good father role models. All they want to do is feed, fight and breed. Basically they breed with any female they can catch. Come August the chicks fledge. Then the haggard females and the fledgling make a beeline for the feeders. The fledgling start out a bit clumsy in flight. They seem very playfully chasing each other and the adults.
By the end of August the fledgling have joined the adults as masters of airobatics.
Very sharp and well composed too!
