GregS, that is my understanding as well!

I got my part 107 about 1.5 years back just so I could do the occasional photo or video for our church legally. Getting my 107 was interesting and it made me a safer pilot. Sometimes someone will ask me for a drone shot and they can post it wherever they want without me worrying about being reported to the FAA. Basically I fly for fun, not profit. I did exactly the same thing bsprague mentioned above with Pilot Institute. State Farm Insurance (here in western PA) on my Air2S costs me $45 per year but it doesn’t cover commercial work or liability. I usually don’t fly in areas where there are people anyway. I am the pilot for our local Volunteer Fire Department and if I’m deployed, their insurance covers me and the drone, including liability. Best wishes and enjoy the hobby.
