My fault was to hold my camera without strapping on while walking. I stumbled without seeing there were 2 steps down while walking under bright sun between buildings and high contrast shadows with my sunglasses on.
It happened on my 71 birthday. I didn't get hurt except my pride and my 8 years old D610 with my 1 month old 16-35 VR lens; the lens broke off and torn some parts from the camera body. I hope the lens seems ok but have no means to test it.
The bright side is time to upgrade to D780.
Any suggestions where to buy it. 42nd Street sells for $1369; is it a good deal?
I don't mind a used one if the price is right.

I strongly agree with what's been said about 42nd Street by other photographers here. Avoid them. Modern cameras are pretty complex pieces of equipment. If you need help with it, you might not be able to get it. I've had great luck with used equipment from KEH and MPB. I've returned equipment to KEH within the warranty period for a full refund with no questions asked. The big difference in buying a camera body is that KEH won't give you the shutter activation count, MPB will. For that reason I bought my used D850 from MPB. The Nikon's I have owned have been incredibly durable but they have occasionally put out flawed equipment that has been recalled or corrected by firmware updates. I personally own a D600 that was under recall. Nikon replaced the shutter even though I bought it used. I'm repeating all the other voices here, avoid buying grey market cameras. Not worth the risk.

I've purchased several cameras and a number of lenses from Used Photo Pro. They have some of the best used equipment available on their web site. Here's a link to a used D780, w/23508 shutter actuations. They have a great reputation.

Have you considered just buying a used 750 or 780?

Keh has a used on which cost just as much as a new one from 42nd Street.
How do I know the used one is not a gray market one

Do you guys rather pay more on a used on than a gray market new one?
Could one with US warranty be made from the same origin as the gray market one?

A photographer and their money are easily parted.

Check with KEH. They are very likely to know. And they stand behind their guarantee for 180 days.

I have purchased 3 times from 42nd. Once OK, two suffered from misrepresentations, including a gray market product not represented as such and which they claimed I was trying to substitute not their product when I wanted to return it.
