Chipmunk in the Rockies

I saw this guy on a trail in the park. He was very curious about me. I think they call them ground squirrels in the west. At any rate he posed for the photo. I also ran into a marmot on the trail up Long's Peak. Again, very curious, and didn't seem fearful. I guess they see a lot of hikers and get fed. We ran into a group of these ground squirrels once at a rest stop in Idaho. They would eat out of our hands.

Cute shot of a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel. There are also many species of chipmunks in the west. This just isn't one of them. 
The Eastern Chipmunk does have more similarity to the Golden-mantled G.S. than the western species, hence the frequent mis-identifications one encounters.
