I have been thinking about leaving this site.

I also detest the new format, but there is a somewhat easy workaround. Go to the upper left corner and click on filter by section, and you'll find a list of the sections. If not for that, I'd probably consider being gone, too.

This whole Digest this is actually kind of funny. I opted out of it when I joined a decade ago so from my point of view, nothing has changed.

To leave the site because of that though, is ludicrous. There must other things going on with the OP...

I just click on "Home" which lists all the sections in the same order they used to appear. Then I just click on the one I want to see. When I am done, I click on the "back" arrow and the list appears again and I go on to the next section.

Yes, it is an adjustment. What I'm doing is clicking on Home (at the bottom of each page) and then looking at new entries in various categories.

I joined in November 2012, don't think I ever subscribed to the digest, but learned quickly to opt out of receiving email notifications of watched topics. The reason? I spent hours every day on UHH! It was my first forum of any kind and I leaped off the deep end: created 300 new topics my first year and commented in 30 - 50 every day.

I would really love to hear from folks who leave because of this digest change. Let me know where you find a better system and feel more at home. Ludicrous is a great description!

If I provided a tip it was regarding alternatives to the digest. I did see Admin's two notices, and passed those along.

Click on "newest topics" at the top of this page. Those are in order of creation, newest first.

I looked at the digest (link at bottom of this page) before logging in and of the 10 I randomly opened, all were either created Sept 23 or Sept 24.

Re Longshadow's comments, a "post" is not a "topic." Precision with language helps keep us from total chaos

Agree with your last paragraph. A lot of sloppy language used on UHH that impairs communication.

I don't recall subscribing to the Digest, and I never unsubscribed, but I haven't received an email about it in years. I just click on the bottom of any page.

I've also thought about quitting because of the unnecessarily nasty comments - not necessarily directed toward me, but to others. "If you don't have anything nice to say..."

Fortunately the number of complaints is lessening so Linda can get some rest.

I've taken a time-out more than once, but never felt the need to announce my departure publicly - except maybe when I stepped down from manager of PP Forum, can't recall. But that was just to alert the regular supporters of that section.

You joined about 9 months before I did and we also share membership in another photo site but honestly, it's been a very long time since I went there. The name escapes me and forget about the login info but I remember that you were a mover and shaker there as well.

This ties into the "better system" idea. I stopped visiting because there IS no better site than this one. It is well done, impeccably maintained and easy to navigate.

For about the first six months of joining, I thought about leaving too but it was largely because of the trolls. It took a while, but I came to the realization that I may have been posting crap (sometimes I still do, I like to share) and that sometimes their opinions weren't so far off of the mark. I also realized that I needed to grow a pair and not be so sensitive. Ironic considering that I work in a prison where having a thin skin is not really an option. Another lightbulb moment happened when I took time to read what people were saying and that some of them were just being disagreeable because snarky was what they did and that it had nothing to do with me at all.

One last parting thought. What got me through those first few months were people like you, Heirloom Tomato (I still tear up when I think of her kindness and generosity) and Robert Malarz, may they both rest in the most divine peace imaginable.

I apologize for the ramble but if the OP has thoughts of leaving over such a thing as as the digest then I urge him (or her) to focus on the positives and not let this thing be the sum total of the experience.

I have left a number of forums before but I didn't announce my leaving at all. When I left I just left.

So, one might have to wonder, what was the point of the rant?

"Mover and shaker..." too funny!

Was it photmentoris? That site was created by SteveM after he left UHH, but it hasn't been active for a few years now.

Heirloom died unexpectedly (no known health issue) six months after she joined UHH. She was as you said, kind and generous, creative and very dear to me. Many others since then have died, or moved on from our UHH family.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments.

I hope that you don’t leave because of certain changes. I am not fond of change but I do my best to adapt. Without giving praise to the Admin, what is done is after many hours of thought. They were deemed necessary as well essential to smoother operations.
Fortunately, we are in a country that allows the freedom of opinion and freedom of speech. When the Admin made the change he/she closed the opportunity for our response. I justified sending an text message to them. No response was given and at least I put in my 2 cents worth.

I suggest you stay on board so that you can be a valuable contributor to the forum. Consider this: would you leave the forum if the Admin changed the background color to pale blue and made the font size larger?

Stay on Board…
The Best Is Yet To Come!
