If you look at the best rated pro displays they are all IPS, so that would be my recommendation.
IPS has the best color accuracy. If you are one a budget you can save money by buying a better display in a smaller size. I realize that you would like a 32", but consider why you are buying it.... to edit colors of photographs.
You want 10 bit color, and if you want your screen to match your prints, a super bright display is not helpful.
Ideally you want hardware calibration. For editing pictures you would be better off with a great 24" vs a mediocre 32". Most displays are geared toward gaming, which have different requirements than editing pictures.
Thats my best advice

After much Q&A on the Hog, I purchased the 32" BenQ EW3270U Monitor 3 years ago.
I have been extremely happy with my choice.
I believe their PD series has superseded it. Check them out.

I’m not an expert on monitors and resolution which is why I’m soliciting advice 😎. I can only go on my experience. The 4K 13” screen on my Dell XPS13 is by far the best viewing experience I’ve ever had on a laptop it blows away every laptop Ive ever had. This includes 4 year old MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. My assumption is that this would be the same for a 32” monitor. This could be untrue and I just don’t know it. I do know if you compare the pixel density on a 32” screen at different resolutions the 4K will have the highest density. I’m not sure how this will relate to photo processing though.

This is a dumb question but In your use of different resolution monitors all of 32” does your video driver and card support 4K display? Thanks for your help

Yes, I have plenty of graphics horsepower for any monitor out there.
Make sure you do...adding a 4k monitor can slow you down.
Which is exactly why I use my monitor at 1440...for photo processing.
I can have multiple programs open and still process.
If I go to 4k...the system...even mine...will slow down a bit.

Bottlenecks are the main problem with computers...one upgrade...may end up showing another deficiency.

I am looking to buy a new 4K monitor for photo editing and would prefer a 32” screen instead of 27. I currently am using a 10 year old Dell 24” My main computer is a Dell XPS 13 with a 4K display. Trying to do this on a lower cost budget. I’ve found the following on sale.
It is a VA display instead of IPS. Ive read pros and cons on this. Does anyone have experience with this model or VA displays in general? If not this monitor then I’m open to suggestions. Thanks

LG makes great 32” monitors!

That is a VA panel like the one I’m considering. Even though yours has been updated with a new model I found one like you have for $349. I has a better color gamut than the Dell has too. Thanks for sharing your info with me

There is some basic information here. A brief perusal makes me think worrying about which type is like splitting hairs.

I think the choice quickly boils down to personal preference. I prefer a matte screen because reflections drive me crazier but most prefer a screen that appears sharper.

Cooke, just buy the monitor ! Ok just do it, you will be very glad you did.
Look, this is UHH, you have been on here long enough to know what kind of replies to expect on a question like this.
Also the one Tracy B. sent you looks good too.
You cannot go wrong. The ISP beats the VGA and I do not care what other say. I have been through all of this myself.
So, GET THE MONITOR, you will be glad you did.
Ok the BenQ crowd will always chime and the BenQ monitors are actually the top of the line BUT the price ????
Well you have a laptop, so it would be over kill big time.
The one Tracy sent you and the 299 one, either one, you WILL BE HAPPY.
Just do it.
Bruce.
