So what do you think about the new digest format?

Sometimes, monkeying with something that radically is a mistake.

I read Admin's reasoning, but I don't get it. I use my iPhone and Mac about the same way. The site looks the same on both. But I can type much faster on the Mac, so I use UHH on the Mac more than I do on the phone.

It would be nice to see the top posts in the categories to which I'm subscribed, in the order I want to read the categories, without having to scroll to the bottom of the page, go to "All Sections", and then find each category from the master list.

Click the "home" button, upper left of your screen. What do you see? Should be just the sections you're subscribed to.

Thanks, Linda! I may resort to that until the inevitable restoration of the digest to its former look.

So I’ll address that. The advantage of the digest (to me) is that it groups the sections you’re subscribed to, so you can go directly to the topics in the section that interests you at that moment and scan the sections in sequence - saves steps over opening each section one at a time or having to scan through everything in new topics... The newest topics mixes them all together, and if you subscribe to photos and BIF, then those dominate the posts and you have to scan through them all if you’re looking for something in the main discussion. Of course you can open a page, go to sections and the choose the desired section (which I do occasionally), but for me, I prefer the groups, even if they’re not “up to the minute”.

I do occasionally go to new topics in the evening, but in the morning, after I read The NY Times, I like to look at the digest. Just a personal preference. “Far superior” to you, not to me. I’m subscribed to 20 sections (just counted), and many of them have no posts or just 1-2 posts per day, but now I’ll never open 20 sections a day, so that occasional post in astronomy or sports likely won’t get read.

Cheers

You can use this page:

https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/unread-topic-list-by-section?sectnum=1&sectnum=5&sectnum=7

This is meant for section managers. But you can use it if you want. It shows you topics created over the past 72 hours that you haven't opened, in selected sections.

You can add &sectnum=XXX for whatever sections you want. Then bookmark that link and you can open it whenever you want to see topics broken down by sections. Once you open a topic, it disappears from that list and you can refresh and see any remaining topics. And you don't have to open respective sections.

Change for the sake of change is ridiculous. People like consistency not necessarily better. I feel like I'm using a Microsoft product. For those wanting the latest and greatest they could easily go to the category a see everything. Doesn't digest (as in readers digest) indicate it's a brief summary? At this point why have the digest at all?

I'll try it a little more but at first glance, I agree. I always liked having each of my chosen topics separate so if I wasn't in a mood to look at the "Birds" I could skip by them all. Now it's a complete mish mash of postings with no discernible order and I have to look at the fine print to see what topic it used to be in. Supposedly this system gets more people to look at more postings but in my case, it's less.

Please go back to the old format. This is confusing and more work. The other format was organized and easy to follow.

Linda's right. At first, I was really dismayed to see everything in a jumble but as Linda suggested, I clicked on "Home" and there were my old topics in the same order as before. The miniscule difference is, the topics don't show the postings; I have to click on each topic to see them. I can live with that.

Totally agree. And it’s not just a matter of getting used to something new. It’s a pita.

I'm completely lost! The dates are all mixed up! Personally, I read the Digest every morning and keep up-to-date.
This morning is a frustrating mish-mash and, unhappily, a turn-off.
I'm so disappointed!
