The Act was created to rectify lessons learned from WWII. If interested, Google it and see what else was created (and two elements eliminated). Every element created is still with us today.

'63 to '68 for me. Stationed at Hickam AFB, Honolulu, Hawaii, '65 to '68. Being stationed at Waikiki Beach was better than going to 'Nam. I might have reenlisted but I was afraid I would be going to 'Nam.

You were lucky. I was in Louisiana from August '65 through August '68. I was lucky to get that because when Lincoln AFB shut down, they were first going to send me to Val D' Or, Quebec. I got out to go to law school, but did not sign up for the active reserves or ANG because I did not want my education or early career interrupted by a call up.
